A few weeks later, Timothée and I sit on the hood of his car, parked in a quiet spot overlooking the city. We listen to music and watch the stars twinkle to life above us, our minds filled with a mix of emotions.
"You think we're making the right decision? Placing our baby up for adoption?" I ask while turning to Timothée.
He nods, his eyes shining with a hint of sadness. "We are."
We'd decided to place our baby for adoption, but the reality of it still stings. We want to remain part of the baby's life, but we know it won't be the same as being full-time parents.
As we sit on the hood of the car, Timothée turns to me with a thoughtful look. "Do you think our baby will ever understand why we made this choice?"
I shrug, feeling a pang of sorrow. "I hope so. But even if they do, it won't change the fact that we won't be there for every moment of their life."
Timothée's eyes cloud over, and he takes my hand. I know he's thinking the same thing I am. We are always going to wonder what could have been.
I sigh feeling tears prick at the corners of my eyes. Timothée brings up and idea of recording videos for the baby as we go through this journey as teen parents. I thought it was a great idea!
Timmy started filming from his phone, our voices trembling slightly as we speak to our baby for the first time.
"Hey there, little one," Timothée says, his voice filled with emotion. "We're making this video for you, so you can know how much we love you, even before you're born."
He pauses, collecting his thoughts.
"We know we can't be there for every moment of your life, but we want you to know that we're thinking of you, always. We're thinking about the first time you'll smile, the first time you'll laugh, and the first time you'll take a step."
I join in, my voice cracking with tears.
"We're thinking about all the late-night feedings, all the early morning wake-ups, and all the moments in between. We're thinking about how much we want to be there for you, to hold you, to cuddle you, and to watch you grow."
Timothée takes a deep breath, his eyes shining with tears.
"But even though we can't be there in person, we want you to know that we'll always be with you in spirit. We'll be the ones cheering you on from afar, the ones who will love you no matter what."
We both sit in silence for a moment, collecting our thoughts.
"We love you," Timothée says finally. "More than words can say."
I nod, my voice barely above a whisper. "We love you so much, baby. And we always will."
We sit in silence for a moment, holding hands and looking at the camera. The music in the background seems to swell, filling the space between us.
Timothée breaks the silence, his voice filled with determination. "We'll make sure to be there for all the big moments. And we'll make sure to be there for all the little ones too."
I smile, feeling a sense of hope. "We'll be there for every smile, every laugh, and every tear. We'll be there to wipe away your tears and to help you chase your dreams."
Timothée nods, his eyes shining with conviction. "We'll be there for you, Always."
We sit in silence for a moment, looking at each other and knowing that we're in this together. Knowing that we'll face whatever comes next, as long as we have each other.
Finally, Timothée turns off the camera, and we sit in the silence, holding hands and looking up at the stars.
Timothée drives me home, the silence between us filled with a sense of peace and contentment. As we pull up to my house, he turns off the engine and turns to me, his eyes shining with love.
