Chapter 9 - Depth of Misery Part 1

" Mom! *pant* Mom! "

I rapidly ran and highly jumped onto my Mom's thin pale arms.
" Oops! Hold on Erika. Why are you in a hurry my sweet angel? "
Her smile was warm and blissful even though I knew that I'm heavy to be carried anymore. I just tried my best to gave her my brightest embrace to ease her pain.
" Mom... "
" Hm? "
" Is Dad going somewhere again? "
" Eh?- "
" Thus Dad doesn't love Mom... doesn't love Erika? "
" *gasp* No sweety! -- " Her voice suddenly rose up but still mellow to my ears. She gently put me down and hold both my tiny shoulders.
" Dad loves us so much... "
" Then why he's always leaving? "
" He is just doing some work. "
" Work? "
" Mhm. And you know what? Dad said, you can wish or get what ever you want like he always do when he gets home! "
" Really?! "
" So be sure to be good girl while he's gone, he said. " She patted me with her warm hand and gave me a calm smile.
" I will! " and I smile back.

My dad was the first son and the heir of the Inuoe Family. But instead of taking care their family business, he gave it to his younger (Katsuro Inuoe) and follow his own perspective and desire in life and became a archeologist. It's a miserable job since he always travel and have only small amount time to spend with us. But even so, he did made his goals in life by becoming what he would want and made me and mom live like a queen and a princess.
We have a huge mansion that was like a castle to me when I was a child and a lot of maids! They're maids everywhere! As for my ill-sick mom, she doesn't need to work and just be strong.

While Mom and I was picking colorful flowers at our garden, Mom told me something that surprised me.
" Erika. "
" Hm? What is it Mom? "
" Dad is going to.... Come home soon. " Her smile to me was like opposite smile she gave to me when Dad just left.
" *gasp* When? Is it today? When?! "
" 3 days from now sweety. "
" 3 days? How long is that? "
" Hmm... let say-- you need three long sleep. "
" 3 sleeps? "
" Mhm. "
" Then I should start to sleep so that dad can go home now! But--..... I still not sleepy mom. " I was really confused that time that I'm started to tear up. But Mom wiped it out and patted my head.
" It's alright sweety. Hm... How about you tell what are you going to wish when dad came home? "
" My wish? "
" Do you still don't have your wish ready yet? "
Just giving it a second thought, I almost forgot that I do have one.
" I already have one! "
" Really? What is it? "
" I wish that Dad will stay longer at home so that the three of us can play at the garden everyday! "
" E-Erika? "
" But if I want everyday then Dad should be at home every time... but Dad has work..... what should we do Mom? " When I looked at my Mom's face, it was like she was also about to tear up but still trying to give me a smile.
" Mom? "
She suddenly hugged me. It was tight but I still can breath and move arms.
" It's ok sweety. I'm sure Dad can grant your wish, since your good and clever child. "

But something happened.

I thought Dad coming home was a big surprise but it wasn't .

The day when Dad coming home, it was raining so heavily. I was really scared at that time because of the thunder and lightning that was appearing in the dark scary night. I ran out of my room to go to my Mom's room but I saw her talking to someone downstairs on the main door. It was a big man wearing wet clothes and holding some stuff that looks familiar. I got curious and went down. When I pulled my Mom's silk night dress...
" Mom? "
She slowly turned around and with a.... Blank dead expression on her face.
As a child, I couldn't understand what's happening but all I could think about that time was...
" Where is.... Dad? "
When I said that, Mom fell on her knees like I pulled the trigger from her without knowing a thing. She slowly reached my body with her shivering arms and hugged me. Her hugged was cold... like her arms was about to fall.
" Dad is.... Dad is....
.....
..... couldn't grant your wish...
... this time. "

On his way home, Dad's car was accidentally lose control and crashed....

At the funeral, our friends and family came to give condolence. There were so many people yet few were got my attention. My uncle was also came with her daughter who's at my age. As for my Mom, she's always crying, I wanted to cheer her up but even I can't cheer up myself. But, I didn't cried back then.... I just can't.
When Dad was total gone, our everyday life changed.... I mean, horribly. Mom can't even eat nor sleep, she's crying like always and shut herself on her room. Since no one was working, our money and wealth that my Dad earned for us was taken in a flash. Our maids were gone without me knowing why, they simply just hugged me and said their goodbyes. There was also a time when some strange men wearing suit were waiting and knocking at the gate outside. They were really scary so I just went running to my Mom's room.

I slowly opened her heavy dusty door that was last opened as I remember. When saw her room, it's a bit scary since it was dark because of the laid curtains that was blocking the windows. Her things were also scattered everywhere like was past by a tornado, and then she was there... at the corner, sulking by her own.

" Mom? "
I was a bit scared and my voice was shaking and shivering. I tried to walked slowly with my tiny feet and call her again.
" Mom? "
Still no reply. I went closer and closer to her until I heard her... sobbing.
*sob* *sob*

I stared at her for about a min. and thought something...
Where is my Mom?
My Mom who's always have the brightest smile was now nowhere to be found. All I can saw was a lady in shadow who's darker than her room.

I can't do anything but to stare at that time. I didn't care, sad nor pity her... I just want it to be over...
I tried to pick some words on my head to say it to her but someone just whispered to me the words I needed....
" Dad is gone....... and happy. "
Mom suddenly stopped sobbing and turned around. Her eyes were dead wet and red. I was scared yet again but I can't just stop now. I should tell to her all the thing he whispered to me....
"So... we should live on and be happy... too. "
