• 2 YEARS AGO •"A-a-ngelo, stoo-o-op," Kendell said in between giggles, trying to wiggle out of Angelo's grasp.
"No, no, no... you don't get out that easily," Angelo said, while hovering over Kendell with a mischievous glint in his eyes, laughter bubbling up in his voice.
Kendell's laughter was infectious. "Alright, alright! I give uup!!" Kendell exclaimed, throwing his hands up in mock defeat.
Angelo grinned, his fingers pausing their tickle assault. "That's better," he said, leaning down to plant a soft kiss on Kendell's forehead. For a moment, everything felt perfect, like they were just a normal couple enjoying each other's company.
Kendell sighed happily, resting his head against Angelo's chest. "I love moments like this," he murmured.
Angelo's arm tightened around him. "Me too," he said softly. "You make me happy, you know that?"
Kendell looked up, his eyes shining. "You make me happy too, Angelo."
The warmth of their embrace lingered, and for a while, everything seemed fine and perfect. They lay there, wrapped up in each other's love and admiration, the rest of the world fading into the background.
As the minutes turned into an hour, Kendell felt himself drifting off to sleep, the steady rhythm of Angelo's heartbeat lulling him into a peaceful state. But just as he was about to fully surrender to sleep, Angelo's phone buzzed on the nightstand.
The ringing broke Kendell out of his trance. He looked around and noticed he was in the waiting room. The memory of Angelo dissolved, replaced by the dry gray walls of the waiting room. He looked down at his phone and saw Mia's name flashing on the screen.
Kendell sighed, took a deep breath, and answered the call. "Hey, Mia."
"Kendell, where are you? We've been worried sick," Mia's voice crackled through the phone, laced with concern and a hint of frustration.
"I'm at the po-" Kendell looked up and saw Catéo was making his way back to him, "Mia, I'll fill you in on everything, I promise, but I have to go. Bye, love you." He ended the call quickly, not wanting Mia to worry any more than she already was.
Catéo reached him, his eyes scanning Kendell's face for any signs of distress. "Everything okay?" he asked, concern etching lines into his forehead.
Kendell nodded, though he could feel the weight of the past pressing on his shoulders. "Yeah, just Mia being Mia, worried about me."
Catéo wrapped an arm around Kendell's shoulders, pulling him close. "I know baby, It's hard but you have to do this, who's to say he won't turn around and do the same thing to another person, we have to put a stop to him.
Kendell nodded, tears threatend to fall down, even though he knew he NEEDED to do this he didn't WANT too.
This was Kendell's first love, his first kiss and he gave himself to him, it breaks his heart that he's doing this but he had too, it was the only way.
They sat in silence for a few moments, the gravity of the situation settling in. Kendell's mind drifted back to the good times with Angelo, the moments when everything seemed perfect. But those memories were tainted by the darkness that followed.
Catéo's voice broke through his thoughts. "You don't have to go through this alone, you know. I'm here with you every step of the way."
Kendell looked to his side, his eyes meeting Catéo's. "Thank you," he whispered, his voice cracking. "I don't know what I'd do without you."
"You'll never have to find out," Catéo said firmly. "We're in this together."
Taking a deep breath, Kendell wiped away his tears.
"Kendell Matthews?" The officer called out.
Catéo and Kendell shared a final look between each other before standing up.
