Chapter One: Fresh Faces

I just got off the subway and I'm on my way to my second job. My first (unpaid) job is being a "superhero". *Wink*

I work in a lounge that's located below another building as a waitress/singer. I was told to arrive early for some reason.

Which is why I'm currently walking down the streets, that are always lite up at night, at 5 in the evening.

I know I shouldn't be walking down the streets of this city alone at my age, 22 1/2, but earlier I was forced to "triple-study" a special teleport spell just in case I need to flash out of a situation.

I walked into the door and went down the stairs to the lounge.

It wasn't lit up because the sun was still shining through the basement...window...thingies...you know what I'm talking about! It looked really weird but...nice. The bartender's station was closed and all the stage equipment was put up and so were all the chairs.

The sign, that usually listed "Today's Performers", "Today's Specials", and etcetera, said "Employee meeting 5:45 upstairs, down the hall, second door to the right."

"Ugh! Not stairs, again!" I said to myself.

My watch said 5:40.

I sulked back up the few stairs and went down the hall to the door on the right as directed by the sign.

As I walked in the room, I saw everyone sitting at one of those long meeting tables.

I sat down in an empty seat next one of my friends, Esther.

"Hey." She whispered.

"Hey...uh, what's this meeting about?" I asked.

"Various things, this is a monthly staff meeting. We have one every first week of every month we can." She explained.

That's explains why I had no idea what this meeting was about! I was just hired on the fourth week of May (last month).

"Oh." I said.

"Oh, that's right this is your first one isn't it?!" She just realized that I've only been working here for a week.

"Yeah." I said.

"Glad to see you here, Red." Our boss, Simon, greeted me.

My nickname around here is Red because I wore a simple red dress during my very first performance on stage. No jewlery or accessories, really cheap black pumps, and some tights.

Everyone showed up on time and we got started with our meeting.

One Miserable, Boring, Mind-numbing Hour Later (No one told me this job had an excruciatingly boring side)

Simon was about to dismiss us when...

"Oh, Si, you forgot about--!" Meg, his assistant reminded him.

"--Oh, that's right! Thanks for reminding me!" He thanked her.

The rest of us groaned loudly and obnoxiously.

"Oh, be quiet! This'll be quick, I promise." He shut us up. "Now, you all know about our new family member, Red, right?" He put me on the spot.

Everyone said that they knew me.

"Well, I've been thinking. We lost a good few performers and..." He began.

"Lost?" I thought to my self.

"I'm gonna need more than just one cute little face! So auditions will be held on the , , for new singers. I'm telling you guys this because I need you to pass out the flyers. Post them on telephone poles, give em' to your friends. Hide them from your untalented friends. Stuff like that." He explained.
