A Family (Oc x reader)

No One is Coming

(Not sure for how much longer they stay yet. Hope to write of that. I'm trying to figure out how they might escape that airport. But I might skip some details, since I have no clue how, lol.)

The zombies around the airport have kind of quieted down, but there are still many surrounding the airport and the lower levels of the airport. A small group of the survivors at the airport decides to leave.

  Ethan has said he's going to look for his family. He has a general idea of where they might've gone, his father being an important man in the government. However, he can't know for sure and it will be a difficult, uncertain and dangerous journey. And now, finally, a big enough group is billing to leave the airport.

Some are still too scared and decides to wait for rescue. Ethan tries to convince them to go with him, telling them that no one is coming to rescue them. But it's to no use, so he gives up and focuses on the new group.

Before you get the chance to tell him you want to come with, he takes you aside and tells you that he wants you to come with him. He promises to do everything he can to protect you. He comes up with multiple excuses as to why he needs you to come with, being a nurse for one example. And he had good excuses because you were very helpful and resourceful, and the only one that was willing to come with that has medical experience.

...

(They scavenged through some luggage in the beginning too, since they slept in the airport or maybe they didn't get to it until recently I don't know yet. But they're doing it again now to get ready to leave.)

You find thick warm and practical clothes. Finding some leather garments, you rip it into one long piece and wrap around your hands and forearms for protection from bites. You find more of the same material and some similar. There was apparently some travellers that planned on hiking wherever they were originally heading and that's where you found the sleeping bags and some tents when you first went through the luggage.

You find a bag that contains clothes that might fit Parker, so you bring it to Maria. She hadn't said that she was sure they were coming with you, but she doesn't seem certain about staying either, so you want to convince her.

"Here, I found this. Thought it might fit Parker. It has some travel wear, should be useful." You tell her. She glances at it and you with an unreadable expression.

"Thanks." She says.

You smile with a nod and turn to Parker who is sitting a little behind his mother, just staring at you. Leaning down to his level, you reach in your bag and pull out a cute beige teddy bear you found while going through the luggages.

"Hey, Parker. I found this guy. He could really use a friend. Do you want him?" You smile and show him the bear.

Parker stares at it for a long moment and then looks at you again before tenderly reaching for it. He takes it and you smile as he just stares at you. When you stand back up, he still just looks at the bear for a long time before slowly hugging it, then goes back to staring at you.

"You're good with him." Maria states.

"I guess." You shrug. "Always loved kids. It was my favourite unit, but also my least favourite, to work in at the hospitals. Wonderful kids, but tragic reasons for being there." You say sorrowfully, thinking about some kids you had interacted with, but later had died.

"He's not like this.. with anyone, never have been.. You ever wanted kids of your own?"

"Yes. But I hadn't planned for it yet, and now.. I'm not so sure I will want to bring a child into this world." You say, looking out the windows at the zombies mindlessly roam the area. Maria looks down thoughtfully and then at Parker.

"You would make a great mother." She says in a low voice, looking at her son with a thoughtful look.

"I don't know about that." You chuckle with a shrug.

"You would. It comes naturally to you." She gestures to the clothes you brought her for Parker.

"I'm just glad I can help." You smile.

...

You go to Ethan and set a pile of folded clothes beside his bag. He was standing by it, looking over the map again. He turns to you in question.

"I found some things that should fit you, travel wear and stuff. Seeing you were busy, I thought I'd help you out." You tell him. His brows raise as he looks at the pile.

"Oh, wow. You didn't have to. But thank you." He says, appreciatively, relieved he didn't have to make time for that too, adding to everything else he had going on. He was planning and preparing some weapons with Virgil.

"No problem." You smile with a shrug.

You take the leather garments piece and go to his side. Holding your hand out, he looks at you in question. You take his hand and start to wrap it around. He then sees the same around your forearm.

"That's clever. Thanks."

"It's a little stiff now. This way you can stretch it and get used to them before we leave."

Once done securing them and making sure they're somewhat comfortable to use, you pat his forearm, satisfied with your work. Instead of leaving his side, you start to put the clothes in his backpack.

"I can do that myself." He says, chuckling.

"I know." You say glancing at him with a smile, but then turning back to continue getting his bag ready. He smiles gratefully at you before turning his attention back to the map.

Maria is still going through luggage. As she does, she finds a bottle of pills. She stares at it for a long moment before glancing at her son, seeing Parker staring at you and Ethan.

"Hey, Maria. You need help going through that?" Agnes asks walking toward her, and Maria hurriedly hides the pill bottle.

"Hey, uhm.. yeah, thanks." Maria says.

  Agnes unintentionally walks a little too close to Parker and he almost jumps away in fright.

"Oh! I'm sorry. I didn't mean to scare you." She apologises with her hands raised, she backs away from him to give him space and walk around to help Maria. She looks at her with sympathy, feeling sorry for the easily frightened kid, her daughter being a lot more sociable and brave.

Maria looks at her son, seeing him almost shaking in fright as he hugs the teddy bear you gave him closer. She sighs and turns back to what she was doing.

Ethan is concerned about how he's getting too close and attached to you. After the last incident, he's been thinking a lot about how he felt. He was so worried about you. So many thoughts and insecurities floats around in his mind and it's making him unfocused. He decides he'll try to keep somewhat of a distance from you, at least emotionally. However, one selfish act will make that quite hard.
