JUST COLD

"So when are you and Pearl gonna fake breakup?" Jimin asks, chewing on his lower lip as he swerves his car to left.

Taehyung doesn't answer, not until he has successfully knocked the car off the track. He then smiles successfully, putting his controller back on the desk while a big 'You Died' logo glows on the screen.

Jimin gives him a death stare from the corner of his eyes and then hits restart. Their cars line up again beside each other and the face starts again.

"I don't know," Taehyung shrugs, focusing on the screen, "Jennie hasn't mentioned it."

"You're with her like, every day." Jimin deadpans.

Taehyung would've loved to deny it but Jimin's words do hold truth. It has been a week since they came back from the Christmas holidays and Taehyung has been seeing Jennie every day. They sit together in their history elective lecture; they also visit the library so they can quietly revise. Jennie is good with English so she helps him there.

"Yeah, but we have to keep this up for some time." Taehyung reasons, swerving his car to the left, "Jisoo Noona knows about us, we can't just break up after the holidays, or else she will be suspicious. And so will be Jennie's family."

Jimin successfully crosses the winning line just a second before him and then gives a long sigh as if he can't believe Taehyung's words, "You two are together even when Jisoo is not around!"

Taehyung rolls his eyes, "That's called consistency dimwit."

"Excuse me, I am the smarter one here." Jimin defends rather aggressively.

Taehyung says, "Just because you and Chaeyoung are now dating doesn't make you smart Jimin-ah."

Jimin looks at him disbelievingly, "I'm smart because I'm not a pining idiot like you."

"Firstly, I have your video call recorded where you were crying and eating family ice cream 'coz Chaeyoung ditched you." Taehyung holds up his palm when Jimin tries to speak, "Second, I'm not pining after anyone."

Jimin swats away his arm, "Oh please, the whole university knows you are crazily in love with Jennie Kim."

The controller falls from Taehyung's hand and onto the couch. "What?!"

Jimin takes his sweet time in answering as he stands up, does some stupid stretches, dodges a punch Taehyung aims at him, and then finally he speaks. "Nayeon was talking about it, which means she talked about it with everyone. So yeah, now you are no more a single loser, congrats!"

"Jimin this is not a joke! You know how many jocks and troublesome gang members like Jennie," Taehyung reminds with wide eyes. "My life is in danger!"

Jimin says, "Then break up."

Taehyung narrows his eyes, "That's not possible either."

Jimin gives a loud groan and throws up his hands in the air, "Then just confess and ask her out for real!"

Taehyung stares at him for a beat longer and eventually sighs, "You know what, just leave it."

"But—"

God sends a savior for Taehyung's ears when the doorbell rings abruptly, cutting Jimin off. He doesn't waste a second and quickly runs towards the door to open it. And finds Park Chaeyoung standing opposite to him.
