Chapter 21: Expanding Horizons
As Harmonie's success continued to soar, Amelia and Jack began to explore new opportunities. They were approached with offers to open restaurants in New York, Tokyo, and London. The prospect was exciting but daunting.
"Think about it," Jack said enthusiastically, spreading out plans on their kitchen table at home. "We could bring our vision to a global stage."
Amelia, however, was more cautious. "But what about Harmonie? Our team here? We've built something special in Paris."
Their differing views led to several heated discussions. Jack was eager to embrace new challenges, while Amelia worried about losing the intimate connection they had with their original restaurant.
The debate came to a head one evening as they walked along the Seine, the lights of Paris twinkling around them.
"I'm scared, Jack," Amelia admitted, her voice barely audible above the lapping water. "What if expanding means we lose what makes us special?"
Jack stopped, turning to face her. "We won't let that happen. Our strength is in our partnership, in how we balance each other. That won't change, no matter where we are."
His words reassured Amelia, and together they began to envision a future where Harmonie's philosophy could touch food lovers around the world.
With the decision made to expand, Amelia and Jack threw themselves into planning their next venture. They chose London as the site for their second restaurant, feeling it offered the perfect blend of tradition and innovation that matched their culinary philosophy.
The process of opening a new restaurant in a different country brought fresh challenges. There were permits to acquire, staff to hire, and a new food scene to understand. They made frequent trips to London, often feeling stretched thin between their commitments in Paris and the demands of the new project.
During one particularly stressful period, as they sat in a London hotel room surrounded by paperwork, Amelia noticed Jack staring out the window, a distant look in his eyes.
"What's on your mind?" she asked, setting aside the supplier contracts she'd been reviewing.
Jack turned to her, a mix of excitement and apprehension on his face. "I was just thinking... with all these new beginnings in our professional life, maybe it's time for a new beginning in our personal life too."
Amelia's heart skipped a beat, understanding the implication of his words. "Jack, are you..."
He moved to kneel beside her chair, taking her hand in his. "Amelia Durand, will you marry me? Will you be my partner in life, as you are in the kitchen?"
Tears welled up in Amelia's eyes as she nodded, words failing her. As they embraced, both felt a sense of rightness, of all the pieces of their lives falling into place.
