The sun continued to beam down on the capital city of the Fire Nation. Citizens went about their regular lives within the busy streets of the great city, unaware of the tyranny that their country was causing the rest of the world. To them, the Fire Nation was simply spreading their greatness with the rest of the world. But for the other nations, families were being torn apart, nature was being destroyed, and people were dying. And those who were away of what was occurring are too scared to say anything. They simply go on with their lives like the rest of the Fire Nation population.
And then there's me. A prisoner, completely aware of the atrocities that the Fire Nation are committing worldwide. As I followed Ty Lee through the many eventful and admittedly beautiful streets of the city, it dawned on me that everybody here supported the Fire Nation- whether they wanted to or not. It was an uncomfortable feeling, knowing that everybody around me was an enemy. I was so distracted that I didn't even realise when Ty Lee stopped walking, causing me to bump into her.
"What's the hold up?" I asked her, slightly irritated at her lack of awareness, even though the minor collision was entirely my fault. My annoyance seemed to go unnoticed as the airheaded girl stared in awe at the building in front of her; a small red and white shop that seemed to be selling food. It had outdoor seating where customers lounged under umbrellas that shielded them from the sun while they enjoyed their meals.
"This is my favourite restaurant!" Ty Lee gasped as she continued to excitedly stare at the building.
"That's great," I scoffed sarcastically. "But it's also useless information to me. Let's keep moving," I added with obvious attitude. Ty Lee may have taken me out of the prison for the day, but that didn't mean that I was obligated to like her.
"I haven't eaten here since before I left for the circus," Ty Lee seemed to ignore my negativity, too busy lost in her own little world. "We have to eat here!"
"What, now?" I raised an eyebrow at the girl. Sharing a meal with Ty Lee would be uncomfortable for many reasons, most namely because she was still an enemy to me.
"Yeah!" she enthusiastically exclaimed before frowning. "Why, aren't you hungry?"
I stayed silent for a moment. Truthfully, I was starving after having lived off of only three small meals a day. Plus, I had already lost a decent amount of my body weight due to lack of food. However, I also was still wary of Ty Lee, who I found untrustworthy.
"I guess I'm a little bit hungry," I admitted, before opening my mouth to continue. "But-"
"Great! We'll eat here then!" Ty Lee quickly cut me off, grabbing one of my wrists with her left arm and beginning to pull me into the restaurant. As she did this, I took notice of the red ring that scarred her skin around her left wrist. It was the mark that I had given her in Ba Sing Se. That day we had spent a few moments together not as enemies, but as... peaceful acquaintances. Of course, that was before she chi-blocked me in the Earth Palace on the day that the Fire Nation infiltrated Ba Sing Se. How stupid I was to actually think that, for a moment, there was hope for people in the Fire Nation such as her and Zuko.
Still, I wasn't about to decline a free meal after weeks of starvation. Ty Lee dragged me to a seat outside and sat on the opposite side of the table so that we faced together.
"Look, it's almost like we're on a date!" she grinned, causing me to groan internally.
"Yeah, except we're most definitely not," I promptly shot down her words as I grabbed a menu that rested on the table and buried my face in it. I studied it for a moment, scanning my eyes over the various foreign food and drink options which I had never seen before. Soon, a waitress approached the table holding a small notepad and a pen. Ty Lee gave the waitress her order, and then I did the same, mostly guessing what sounded like it would be tasty. Then, once the waitress had left, an uncomfortable silence filled the air.
