Little All-Star and BFFS Brave and Wonderful Heart Warrior Journey

Chapter 1

Hot shot is five years old, he is very playful and active. He lives with his father Heatwave and his mother Quickshadow. They all live in Dallas Texas. They live a very happy and normal life there and things are going well.

Heatwave is a firefighter. He is very brave and strong. He has helped save many lives, he has responded to many kinds of emergencies. So he is calm and cool in a crisis. He has the respect of his fellow firefighters and first responders. He taught Hot shot all about fire safety since he was very small. He also taught Hot shot how and when to dial 911. Hot shot was very clever and understood. That made Heatwave very proud that Hot shot was learning to do that quickly. Heatwave is a very loving, strong, caring and loyal husband and father. He loves Quickshadow and Hot shot very much.

Quickshadow is a pediatric cardiologist. She works at Children's Medical Center Dallas. She helps many kids with their heart problems there. She sees kids with conditions that they were born with. She sees kids who have problems with their heart due to another medical condition. She see's kids who have heart problems that happen due to an unknown reason. She knows that heart problems are common in children and that sometimes things that children that are normally diagnosed before or soon after birth sometimes are able to go undiagnosed until sometime later in childhood or adulthood if the symptoms are mild to low moderate. She knows sometimes symptoms that start out mild can get worse over time. She also knows that heart problems are treatable and kids with heart problems can live normal lives. Quickshadow is a very loving, caring, honest, and devoted wife and mother. She loves Heatwave and Hot shot with all of her heart.

Hot shot is a very playful and active little five year old boy. He loves to run, jump, climb and play. He loves to have a lot of fun. He loves to be on the move, and he loves sports. Hot shot's favorite color is yellow, and his favorite animal is a rhino. Hot shot's favorite dinner is fish and chips, his favorite cookie is peanut butter, and his favorite ice cream is cookie dough. Hot shot's favorite sports are baseball, soccer and basketball. Hot shot loves to go outside and play. Hot shot loves to be active and exercise. Hot shot loves to go places like the zoo and mall. Hot shot is able to enjoy himself easily and have a lot of fun. Hot shot is a very good, sweet, honest and generous little boy with a big heart.

However despite loving to run, jump, climb and play Hot shot has a hard time doing so a lot of the time. Hot shot was unable to run for a long time or play for a long time. Hot shot has been this way for a very long time. Hot shot has a hard time being able to keep up sometimes. Hot shot feels out of breath a lot of the time and feelings like his heart is pounding. Hot shot is wondering why he is unable to keep up with other kids his age and why he sometimes gets so tired his parents have to carry him around or they put him in a cart or wagon to go shopping which he doesn't enjoy when they do. Hot shot wants to be able to do things and have fun like other kids but right now it is kind of hard to do so. In fact it has always been hard to do so and he doesn't like it one little bit. 

Today he is feeling pretty bad and came up to his mother. "Mummy I feel funny," Hot shot said.

"Funny how?" Quickshadow asked.

"I just feel more tired than I normally do when I play and I feel like it takes a long time to catch my breath," Hot shot said. "I also feel like something is pounding in my chest often," he said. "It feels so weird," he said. "I just don't feel so good," he said.

"Okay I think it's time we take you to see Dr. Erret about this problem because this has been going on for a long time and it has been getting worse as time goes on," Quickshadow said.

Hot shot got on his shoes and grabbed Roxy the rhino his favorite toy. Hot shot climbed into his car seat and his father buckled him in. "There you go son," Heatwave said.
