Chapter 6

Hot shot was being moved out of the CICU today. He was very excited to be going to the in patient ward with all the other children. He was still not feeling 100% but he was feeling better. Hot shot was able to loose the tubes and wires. Now Hot shot could soon roam the hospital and have fun there.

Hot shot was getting settled in the in patient hospital room. There Hot shot set up his many presents from his family and family friends. One of his favorites was the yellow blanket with a heart with a band aid on it. The blanket had embroidery on it that said Brave Heart Heart Warrior in big red letters. Then on a lower part his name was embroidered on it. Hot shot's aunt Hightemp made it for him. She makes wonder sewn blankets and has her own embroidery machine. Hot shot loved it very much. It was nice soft, warm and comfy. 

Hot shot loved that now Roxy his stuffed rhino has a scar stitched on it. Roxy's scar was like his and Hot shot was very happy about it. Hot shot was able to relax and play with Roxy the rhino.

Dr. Horn came to check on him in the hospital. "Hello Hot shot how are you feeling today?" Dr. Horn asked.

"I am feeling okay," Hot shot said. "My chest is still a bit sore," he admitted. 

"That is normal you will be sore for a few weeks," Dr. Horn said. "The pain should go away after the sixth week of surgery," she said. "Then you should feel more like yourself again and even stronger," she said.

"When can I take off the dressing it kind of scares me when the nurses have to change it," Hot shot said.

"Well Hot shot the dressing is helping keep you incision clean and dry." Dr. Horn said. "Some patients normally can have it removed and keep it off during the rest of the recover time while waiting for the stiches to fall out, as long as they keep the area clean,"  she told him. "don't mess with the scabs or scrub the wound," she said. 

"Oh," Hot shot said. 

"Don't worry poppet it will be alright," Quickshadow assured him. She knew that everything was going to be alright.

"Well I as long as they don't scare me when trying to keep the area clean or be careful make sure it doesn't hurt," Hot shot said.

"I can understand that completely," Dr. Horn said. "But still be careful your wounds are still healings," she told him.

"Yes Dr. Horn," Hot shot said.

Hot shot was able to rest and relax while staying in the in patient ward with the kids. He doesn't need to be monitored as closely anymore. Hot shot was grateful for that. Hot shot still had medicine to take after surgery. He had been taking it since after he woke up from surgery once the tube was taken out of his mouth that is.

Hot shot was ready to explore the hospital. Hot shot was curious and looking around. Hot shot was eager to find out what there was to see in the hospital. He was having fun looking around. Hot shot saw there were playrooms with all kinds of games and toys. Hot shot found it to be very interesting. 

Hot shot saw Roxy the child life specialist today. "Hot shot qualifies for a wish from make a wish," Roxy said. "I referred him and he was approved now he will get a wish," she said.

"That's great, he will be going through much since he was diagnosed late," Quickshadow said. "it will give him something to look forward too," she said. "I am glad he is getting a wish," she said.

"I think it will be a wonderful thing for him," Heatwave said. "He deserves it," he said.

"Wish?" Hot shot asked.

"Yes you will get one wish." Roxy said. "You can wish to be something, wish to go somewhere, wish to meet someone, wish to have something, or wish to give back," she said. "You get only one wish so you got to make it count," she said. "Soon a wish coordinator will come into contact with you and your parents," she said. "Then you can tell them what you want to wish for," she said. "You got time to think about it." She told him.

"Okay," Hot shot said. Hot shot was very happy and excited he was going to be getting a wish. It was amazing and he was going to think hard about what he was going to wish for.

A bit later Hot shot was looking around the gift shop there was candy, toys, clothes, and games. There was all kinds of neat things there. Hot shot was happy to be there. Hot shot saw a plush of an animal called a pangolin and he picked it up and hugged it.

"You want that?" Heatwave asked.

"Yes," Hot shot said.

"Okay then," Quickshadow said. They paid for the toy and Hot shot got it once the hang tag was taken off. 

Hot shot was very happy to have and held it close. Hot shot was soon having lunch. Hot shot was able to eat all of his lunch. His appetite was coming back full force which was a good thing. 

"I am glad to see you appetite has come back," Quickshadow said. "it means you are recovering nicely," she said. 

"I am glad I can eat, because before it hurt to much to even think about eating," Hot shot said.

"That's understandable," Quickshadow said. "Pain can easily ruin your appetite," she agreed with him. "But soon the pain will go away and you will feel so much better," she said. "We will have to keep an eye on you at home after surgery just in case you are in pain for over six week mark, their is redness or oozing from your wound, and if you have a fever," she said. "That could mean something is wrong so it is important to tell us when something is wrong so we can get you help," she said.

"Okay mummy," Hot shot said with a nod. He understood that this was important. Hot shot was hoping to go home very soon. He was going to have to stay in the hospital for few more days. But Hot shot was ready to be brave and had a feeling he was going to be home before he knew it.
