Naina's POV :
Standing right in front of my mother was something so disappointing, shameful and fearful as I hung my head low. Never in my 25 years of life have I felt so uncomfortable while standing in front of my mother. I always stood confidently and that was the exact thing that I learnt from my Anu di and Arnav Bhaiya.
I don't know if the person standing beside me even has a thing called shame ! Let alone fear.
Everyone stood, surrounding us while a whole group of mothers were standing in front of us, with their sharp eyes fixed on me and the person standing beside me. They were practically digging holes in our bodies as they all looked void of any emotions unlike the other times where I always witnessed some kind of emotions whenever we would be in front of them.
Be it anger, that was ok.
But, nothing ? How are we going to deal with this new relationship ?" Avantika, Naina and Karan are not at fault," I heard Tej Uncle's voice from behind. " Please, just..."
" I know it ," Mom interrupted but her voice, laced with unknown emotions." Because you three men are responsible for this."
" But now they are married," came my Dad, Vikram Mehra's voice, which was a dominating one. Why not ? He is a retired Army officer !
" You can't be serious," Ishita Aunty jumped in," You guys have practically forced them into this."
" We were not left with any other option," Raman Uncle hopped into the conversation. "All we thought about was our reputation which our daughter had nearly tarnished by ditching us at the last moment."
Oh God ! Khushi di ?
I hope she is fine and safe.
But Arnav bhaiya ? When and how did he elope ?" Only Khushi is not at fault," snapped my Dad, as he stared back at Raman Uncle. "Even Arnav should be blamed."
" Can we just drop that topic related to Arnav and Khushi and instead, decide something about this newly wedded couple," Om bhaiya who was a silent spectator voiced out.
The only sensible man in both families !
" There's nothing to decide," Anu di said,"Both Karan and Naina are complete strangers."
" We can't force them to remain in this relationship," she added.
" Anu, it's not only about knowing each other," Jhanvi Aunty walked towards Anu di who stood beside Mom." It's about this wedding."
" Yeah, we can't neglect the fact that they actually got married with all the blessings and rituals," Ishita Aunty supported Jhanvi Aunty.
" Wait," Shivaay jiju walked towards them. "Anika is right, chachi. We should just forget that this wedding ever took place." He gave them a thoughtful look.
Seems like the one who got us ready for this marriage doesn't want to let us continue it. But it's better I think.
" And what are you going to tell the world ?" Dad looked furious as he glared at Shivaay jiju. Shivaay jiju wasn't on good terms with Dad.
One word from jiju and we would see Dad, protesting whether it's right or wrong !
" So, you care about the world but not about your own daughter ?" exclaimed Shivaay jiju, much to everyone's worry. Both Father-in-law and son-in-law stood while shooting daggers in each other's way.
" I care about my daughter, Shivaay," replied Dad," But, here it's not about caring. It's about their life. And we can't just ignore this marriage. It has taken place and we are not so great to disrespect this pure relationship."
