Rowan

Waves of fear flooded through her sending her into a trembling mess, poor thing couldn't even get a single word out. Though I couldn't help smiling at the power I held over her.

Despite her tough act, internally, she was a mess. I couldn't imagine the things that must be running through her mind, eating away at her as her efforts to make me let go of her ultimately were useless.

I tugged her hand past my head, our faces now only inches away. Her heart was practically beating out of her chest and each of her breaths came out in sharp heavy gasps as if she was suffocating. I like having this effect on her.

I small pop hissed against my ear, Violet's face had suddenly gone pale and her breathing ceased. She looked unwell. She had managed to work herself up so much the skin she scratched raw had broken on her palm, she was now actually bleeding.

Ivan had told me to be kinder to her and I suppose making her bleed wasn't the right step, but it's not my fault! She shouldn't have bore her nails into her palm, I shouldn't have to be fixing something she made happen! How am I even supposed to be fixing this, it looks like she's going to pass out.

I let out a sigh and brought my attention back to Violet, searching her for any idea on what I could do. I couldn't let go of her because she would just run away - not to imply I wouldn't be able to catch her.. But she probably would faint then.

“Uh..” I started, my mouth moving before my brain could process. What am I even supposed to say! This is fucking stupid.  “I'm going to fix it, stop freaking out.”

I slowly moved her hand to my lips, trying my best not to startle her anymore though her small squeaks of protest were proving my failure. To be fair I dont think she even realised she was making any noise at all.

I kept her hand facing to the side so she was able to see the process and slowly dragged my tongue along the break in her skin, her blood pooling against my tongue. Her warmth briefly flooded my senses causing my eyes to close as the feeling of.. Her.. overwhelmed me. There wasn't much but it was enough. Every vampire was aware that drinking from the source was the best form of feeding but.. This? No. This was different.

I let go of her wrist and sat upright, savouring her taste while looking down at the paralysed girl. “See, “ I prompted, “all better.”

It took her a moment but she regained control of her body. Her small, soft fingers glazed over the now scabbed wound.

“What did you do?” she awed, not averting her eyes from the scab.

“I fixed it.”

“How?”

“Vampire saliva has healing properties.” she looked up at me through her lashes, hesitating as she wracked her brain for an appropriate choice of words. But none came. “You're welcome..” I started.

“Oh. Thank you.” Suddenly she found the floor a lot more interesting than me. Her cheeks tinted rose as she sat awkwardly. Her lack of understanding proved to be useful though, humans must lack knowledge on what our kind can do. Though that could mean we lack knowledge of their kind..

The silence and her distance made the air cold and bitter. An unusual sensation.

I reached for her curled strands, this time she didn't flinch or recoil at my touch rather accepted it. My fingers raked through her silky brown hair which was still damp from her recent shower.

“Ivan and I have discussed taking you out. To bond.”  Her expression became hard.

“Like outside the castle?..” she took her lip into her mouth, expressing her nerves.
