"(Y/n), I'm sorry I had to leave and couldn't explain earlier. Please know I'm safe, and I will return. I'll tell you all about it when I come home, but I promise I'll write to you." I stared at the letter in my hands, unblinking as I read the ink over and over again. "With love, Link."

I looked up to ask the mailman where Link was, but he had already run off again. Slowly I gathered my basket of wildflowers and made my way back to Orodon. The children have gone missing, and so has Link. I seemed to be the only one who was left unscathed by the ambush. I turned before crossing the bridge, looking out at Hyrule before the forest closed in. Dark clouds seemed to spread across the land, and anxiety began to rise within me.

"(Y/n), I wish I could've brought you with me. It's beautiful across Hyrule. I've travelled to the castle and met the princess, she's lovely. Not as lovely as you, though." I smiled sadly, sitting at Link's kitchen table. He was always so kind and thoughtful. "It's too dangerous to bring you though, but I'm not alone. I'll definitely be coming home with a few new scars. I'm alright though! Don't worry yourself too much. I'll be seeing you.

With love, Link."

I sighed, placing down the letter and looking around. All of his things were untouched. I missed him so much. It had been weeks without him. He would joke with me while I garden, and I'd watch him wrangle the goats. We've gotten close, yeah, but I never really thought about how much I'd miss him. Now, with the entire town mourning the loss of their children, there wasn't really anyone who could distract me from the loneliness.

When the third letter came, so did notice that the children of Orodon were safe. I listened to the others run from house to house, excitedly calling out to everyone whose loved ones had went missing. I quietly slipped away to Link's house again. I climbed the ladder and sat down on the landing, gently tearing open the letter.

A pressed flower fell into my lap. I smiled and picked it up, twirling it between my fingers before reading the note. "(Y/n)! Great news! I found all the children safe and well. Ilia is safe as well." My heart sunk a bit. Yes, Ilia and I were friends but I knew she's always had a crush on Link. It's always been known, she's not subtle about it.

Link and I are only friends, right? Maybe?

I shook my head and continued to read the letter, pushing away feelings I haven't wanted to come to terms with. "Although she's safe, it seems as though she's gotten amnesia. She doesn't know anyone or anything. Ilia did seem to recognize me though, so that's a plus!" I winced, wanting to pinch myself a bit for my sudden negative thoughts.
