Chapter III: So... It's Like a Game?

"AH!"

Jun jolted upwards with his eyes wide open, breathing heavily and holding onto his chest. To his surprise, he was in a bright place. It wasn't soaking wet, and there was no rain or storm. Looking around himself, it turned out to be a hospital room.

As Junwoo stared out of the windows, he thought to himself, 'What the fuck? How did I get here?' Memories of fighting Yuuma and everything that happened made him reach for his covers and hesitantly and fearfully pull them down to check for any injuries.

To his relief and surprise, there was practically nothing major, but some parts of his body were covered in bandages. 'Was that a dream? No extra holes. Just some bruises or cuts. I even got my leg and arm back, and more importantly...' He thinks to himself before he speaks out loud. "I'm not dead."

Just then, the door to his room opened, and a voice said, "Oh good, you're awake now." Junwoo turned his head to see a doctor and a nurse in the room with him. "Excuse me, but what happened to me?" he asked, feeling a sense of confusion and disorientation.

"Well, we received a call of a young man lying unconscious in the abandoned shrine on the outskirts of town," the doctor explained. "You were brought in with some injuries, and we've been monitoring your condition closely. Luckily, nothing too serious."

Junwoo nodded, trying to piece together his memories of how he ended up in that abandoned shrine. " "How long have I been here?" Jun asks, rubbing his head. The nurse speaks up, answering, "You've been here for the last three days, young man."

"Three days?! I've been asleep for three whole days?!" The nurse nods sympathetically and says, "Yes, you were unconscious for quite some time. But don't worry; you're in good hands now." Junwoo's mind raced with questions as he tried to recall what had led him to that abandoned shrine.

"Yes, but please keep your voice down." The nurse said, "We need you to rest and recover. The police are still investigating what happened to you," the nurse added, looking concerned. The doctor asks, "Now that you're awake, I'd like to ask. Do you have any recollection of what happened in the last three days?"

"Is it possible that you were kidnapped or drugged during that time?" The nurse adds, her voice is filled with genuine concern. Junwoo held his head and thought, 'Shit. I can't tell them what really happened. They wouldn't believe me; they'll think I'm crazy.'

Junwoo took a deep breath. "I'm sorry, I can't remember much. It's all a blur. I was just walking home... then black." He answered somewhat vaguely, thinking about Yuuma's black wings. Junwoo tried his best to sound convincing, hoping they wouldn't press further.

The nurse exchanged a worried glance with the doctor before nodding sympathetically. "I understand. Now then, please try to get some rest, young man. The nurses will come and check on you later." The doctor said this, giving Junwoo a reassuring smile, and left the room.

He sighed and plopped on the hospital bed, feeling a wave of exhaustion wash over him. Jun closed his eyes, thinking to himself, 'I hope they don't ask too many questions about what happened. But I gotta ask, why'd they leave without asking about the HD monitor thing?'

He opened his eyes, looking at the holographic screen that was hovering in front of his face. The screen displayed a message: [NOTIFICATION: You have unread messages.] [Open] He sat up to get a better look at the message screen above him.
