Raven
The mighty, blue sky beamed down at me as the clouds rolled and the sun set.
I skidded down the muddy ground as the dandelions danced. The grasses stood tall next to the big, perennial trees that swayed in synchronization.
I went through all the twists and turns on the road that will lead me to the usual place. It had been 3 consecutive days since I've been running towards this place.
You see, I met this boy by the same age as mine. He had a brown hair and green eyes and a dimple that made him look dashing. He had been my friend since we met here ---- or since I've been running away here.
I dragged my big brown teddy bear that had a cute little red ribbon around its neck. He gave me this bear when he saw me crying.
I smiled as I reached a big, oak tree that was impossibly located near the edge of a cliff. It was only standing a good measure away from the cliff, that's why we still had to be careful.
I sat silently under my favorite tree as I watched the waves clash among the rocks. The sun was blazing orange and it was starting to set. I still had to raise my head a few inches to see the birds fly east.
I scratched on my teddy bear's head as I waited for my friend. Maybe he wasn't coming. I had always been the late comer.
When I was about to stand up, someone shouted and grabbed me by my shoulders.
"BOO!"
"AHHH!"
I turned and saw my friend. He was grinning widely with his cute, little dimples. He laughed at my surprised expression and it took a thousand of "pounding on his back and on his chest" to make him stop.
"That hurt." He pouted.
"I hate you! I REALLY REALLY HATE YOU, JAKE!"
"And I really really love you, Raven."
We laughed at our usual convo and we sat at the edge of the cliff, with our feet dangling high up in the air.
"Why are you late?" I hissed.
He grabbed a lunchbox and munched a donut, and chocolates smeared on the side of his lips. He wiggled his eyebrows and turned to me with that wide grin plastered on his face.
"Why do you even care?"
I rolled my eyes and wiped the dirt on his face with my hanky. He grew red and looked away and I threw him my hanky.
"I'm just asking."
A chilly blow of the wind made me shiver and Jake laughed while patting the head of his dog named Digger. He told me that Digger had been his friend since he was 3. But that all changed when he met me. He handed me a big, jet black jacket which I guess was his dad's.
I got it hesitantly as I looked at his pale face. I sighed and hugged my teddy bear closer as another chilly air blew on our direction.
"But how about you?" I pouted.
"S'okay. I'm a man already." He said proudly.
I rolled my eyes and challenged him more,"But you're just 7 yrs. old."
"Who cares?" He said as he leaned in.
I blushed uncontrollably as he smiled with his face only inches from mine. He quickly looked away and I rolled my eyes.
"Let's just share this jacket." I suggested.
Before he could complain, I flung the jacket around us and in no time, my teeth stopped chattering.
For minutes, no one spoke. We just stared out at the horizon as my head was resting on Jake's shoulder. Both of my arms are hugging my teddy bear, and Jake was scratching Digger's ears.
"Raven?"
"Hm?"
Another long silence went by until I finally lost my patience.
"You know, stinky gay, if you aren't going to say a thing then I must go home. Maybe my dad will be launching a manhunt in no time if he finds me out of my room." I hisssed.
He just shrugged and I grew irritated.
"Fine. If you won't say anything then I'll go. I still need to deteriorate George's camera, just in case he tries to mess with me and my toys again." I said as I stood up. I grabbed my things and when I was about to walk away, he finally spoke up,
"Raven, If I fall here, will you save me?"
I quickly turned and pulled my brows into a frown. What was he talking about?
I just stared at him like he just declared that the great Johny Bravo is a gay. It took me a minute before I recovered and I finally uttered a word,
"What?"
He suddenly looked at me and there was something in him that always made me mentally say "woah" when he turned. i dont know...maybe it was his face, his eyes, or his cute, big smile...but I guess it was, Jake himself.
I didn't know what happened because all I know was that Jake was waving his hands before my face and my mouth was slightly agape. I looked away and leaned against the fine oak tree that seemed to listen on our conversation.
I smiled at Jake as he also leaned beside me and another cold, chilly air blew out of nowhere. I looked at Jake and I found that he was staring at me with those cute green eyes of his. Okay. I'm just a kid. Come on. I'm just 7 years old and why the heck was I blushing?
As we held gaze, I can't help to think if our friendship will last forever. I held on my bear tighter as Jake gave me a distant expression that he wore when he asked me about the fall scenario.
"Raven, If I jump, will you jump?"
I smiled and took his hand, "I will."
....................................................................................
A tear fell down on my cheeks as I opened the door. There he was. Jake...pale ... with no sign of breathing.
The doctors dropped their faces as they saw me. They scurried out of the room leaving me and Jake alone.
A sob broke into my lips as I reached him and felt his cold, icy hands. My knees buckled and soon, I was sobbing on the floor. Everyone entered the room and they gave me worried looks.
Zach helped me up and I can't help but cry more at the sight of Jake. He's dead...he's dead...why??
"Jake..." I cried as I held on to his hands "don't be dead...come on...don't die...."
I cried a lot more and I could see my mom covering her mouth. I sobbed of grief and pounded on Jake's chest and arms.
"Jake! Wake up, please....wake... up...please..If you jump I jump remember?...."
"pfftt..."
I heard someone laugh then suddenly, more laughter echoed the room.
I looked up and saw Jake sitting on his bed ----- and he's perfectly fine.
I stared at him with horror and shock as he laughed with my family. George pulled out a hidden camera and I realized that right now, we were being broadcasted all over the world. My mom was laughing all along and Zach stiffled some giggle. Even Daniel was laughing along the corner of the room but his eyes told tales of how he's not happy at all.
I looked at Jake as he grinned at me widely.
"Sorry guys, but I can't hold my breath any longer."
