An address to the nation

A cold breeze?
Sharply cold in fact.

This was Earth. At long last.
Words were useless to describe the great sense of...
Yeah but... it...
Wasn't right was it...?

The sky's were dead.

....

Everything was

...

Amongst a grey shroud of darkness and clouds of dispersing embers: Yet always inescapable, a structure. Man made? It was tiring regardless of origin.
A grand and empty stage enveloped a smaller more insignificant platform that laid ghastly established atop the Earth.
Ah yes, ground. Naturally formed, whatever that were to mean anymore.
The wooden carpeted stage was painted in blood and oil.
Frost glazed over every surface, thus sealing the bloody/oily layer of dark decor onto the carpet.
The cold preserved instantaneously whatever occurred here.
Everything around and on this outdoor stage was charred black already, yet flames crept up from the horizon.

Below the stage few things survived.
One being: cameras and sound equipment.
A tape wound back the last spoken words here.
"By God have mercy—"
It was a woman's voice.
Her words captured a remarkable terror.
It cut back again, yet only a few minutes prior.
"Only *bzztt* could explain what you are."
And again minutes scraped back along the old fashioned tape player, "What are you?"
The tape ran out, not because it was over, but because it had burned away.
History sent away as ashes into the wind.

Earlier

Papers were shuffled in anticipation, some being dragged by the brisk wind, bare to true elements.
Cameras were checked with clicking and rotating before being set straight.
Spot on at a stage.
Red curtains slid to the right and off to the left as a uniformed woman strode up.
Lights? On.
Check.
Alright, go.

"Good afternoon ladies and gentlemen, all those who attended this event.

Under circumstances like these I do hate to be so... so off script to say. To be myself I'd guess you'd say. Although I like to think that I myself have been given very publicly and presented in a way to show that I truly do see and understand the hardships our people, the people of our beautiful home, planet Earth, have faced."

Vice President of the United States of the Americas, Madedine Joy, former Lead Engineer of the National Defense Force,
Ayther.

The year is 2108

Earth is no longer habitable but still houses unwilling residents
The state cause of our predicaments:
Artificial Intelligence

The world of Earth burned both figuratively and literally as artificial intelligence reigned supreme, not as overlords as seen written in story again and again, but as puppets, or rather, slaves you could call em if you happened to see a faint glimmer in their imitation eyes.
Slaves to enslave.
