"Mum, Jake stole my hair clip!"
"Dad, Jake hit me!"
"Mum, Jake said I look like a witch!"
"Dad, Jake cheated off of me on a test!"
"Mum, Jake won't stop bothering me!"

The Lees were tired of constantly hearing about Jake. He seemed like a good kid but sounded like a total menace when Heejin described him to them. The girl had no trouble in using his name constantly as soon as she found out what it was. Every conversation with her parents included a complaint about Jake. However, it never truly troubled the parents that much because they knew Heejin got revenge no matter how many times her mum had told her to be the bigger person.

Today was the first day of their last year at school. Objectively, the most important too. Of course on such an important day, Heejin's alarm had yet again failed to wake her up. It was now 7.40(her alarm was set for 7), and she had to get to school before 8 in order to not be late. It wasn't impossible considering she lived 10 minutes away from the school by walk but it only left her 10 minutes to get ready.

Her eyes widened as she saw her clock-7.42?! Why was time going by so quickly, she practically just got out of bed.
"Shit, shit, shit" she cursed under her breath as she ran around her room trying to piece together an outfit. Most people would pick out their clothes the night before, especially for the first day of school, but Heejin had spent her night out skating in a park with her best friend-Karina.

"Heejin you're gonna be late!" Her mum yelled from downstairs. Heejin looked at the clock again-7.44. She had grabbed an outfit off of her messy floor- a wrinkled hoodie and some jeans. Not the best look for a first day. She rushed into the toilet, quickly brushing her teeth and washing her face before spreading some cream on her face and dashing out. On came a pair of unmatched socks and her daily trainers, then she sprinted down the stairs.
"What took you so long?" Her mum asked sternly.
"Broken alarm, gotta go!" She answered quickly.
"Wait but what about breakfast?"
Heejin looked back at the kitchen table which had her favourite food on it-strawberries dipped in chocolate. Her mouth watered at the sight of it but she knew she had no time.
"I'm gonna be late mum"
"No eat something before you go or I won't let you leave"
She sighed before running off to the table and grabbing a bunch of chocolatey strawberries, her bag falling off her shoulder when she leaned down.
"Bye!" She muffled out with a strawbery filled mouth as she closed the door and set down her skateboard, rolling off.

Heejin was nearly there. Maybe 50 or so metres from the gate and it was 7:58. She could do this. Easily.

"What the f-"she said when she felt her headphones being yanked off of her neck. Her eyebrows furrowed and she turned around snarling as her eyes focused on a figure walking the opposite way. Of course, it was the boy she despised most. Jake Sim.

"Give it back Jake come on!"
He turned around with his smug face pushed on to the max.
"Nope"
The girl rolled her eyes. "We're gonna be late, hurry up!" She said angrily as she walked up to him and he walked backwards like a dance.
"Who gives a shit if we're late?"
"It's the first day and some of us don't want to make bad impressions."
"Mm that outfit says otherwise and since when have you ever cared about that kinda stuff."
He smirked looking her up and down. If it came from anyone else's mouth it would have hurt her, it would be impactful. But to Heejin, anything that came out of Jake's mouth was pure bullshit.
She scoffed.
"At least I can do up my zipper."
Jake's eyes widen as he looks down, revealing the undone zip of his trousers. He looked away, pursing his lips and zipping it up, muttering a shut up. Heejin chuckled at his expression.
"Chocolate for breakfast huh? What? You tryna make other people jealous?"
Her face dropped in confusion before she sighed, quickly rubbing the sides of her mouth. "Don't forget the whipped cream too."
Whipped cream..what whipped cream? She didn't have whipped cream. Jake was howling over her face. Then she remembered; the face cream.Heejin went pink in embarrassment as she furiously rubbed her entire face. Suddenly they heard the bell.
The two were officially late.

"Jake!" She groaned. "God! This is all your fault" she pointed at him accusatively.
"My fault? I was just trying to help you" he put his hands up next to his face in defense. If it wasn't his tone that gave off his insincerity, his face was a perfect sign for it.
"You're so annoying!" she said
"You're more annoying!" he replied

"What's going on here?" asked an old, stern voice.
"Nothing."
"Nothing."
They replied at the same time.
"In my office. NOW!"
The two were in trouble before even stepping into school. New record..?

10 minutes later:

"What were you thinking?!"
The 2 were sitting in the vice principal's office getting lectured. Mr.Kim was a prickly dictator.
"You were right outside the school gates! Anyone that walked past would see 2 of our students acting like animals!"
His voice boomed through the painfully unconditioned room. You could see the slight sweat running down the side of his head.
"How many times have the both of you been in this room Hm?! Do you know?!"
His eyes darted between Heejin and Jake.
"ANSWER ME!" Mr. Kim slammed his hands on the table in front of them and Heejin flinched while Jake side-eyed her.
"No sir" He mumbled.
"186 TIMES! 186 IN THE LAST 6 YEARS!"
Heejin bit her bottom lip while looking down, biting back all of the words she wished to say to the overreacting man.
"I have had enough of this behaviour. This year you will be seated together for everything, and I mean everything until you learn to grow up."
The two exchanged shocked and disgusted glances.
"But sir-"
"NO! THAT WAS NOT A QUESTION OR AN IDEA MR. SIM! YOU WILL BE TOGETHER CONSTANTLY. FULL STOP! NOW UNLESS YOU WOULD LIKE ME TO PENALISE YOU FOR WHAT YOU BOTH JUST DID I SUGGEST YOU SILENTLY MAKE YOUR WAY TO CLASS"
Jake and Heejin stood up with their heads down, shuffling to try and escape the congested room as soon as possible. They made their way into the hallway and walked down to their class.
"Can't be serious for one damn second always has to drag me into everything" she muttered under her breath as she speeded ahead Jake. He rolled his eyes following her with a slow pace.
"Heejin-"
She turned around to look at him with her jaw clenched.
"You can't apologise for this, I'll never forgive you" Before the boy could even talk she cut him off.
"Yeah well good thing I'm not apologising then"
Heejin's eyes narrowed in fury.
"What!?"
"I was just gonna say that socks are usually in worn in pairs..you know..matched together?" He spoke in a condescending manner. She squinted her eyes and looked down at her feet. Right. The mismatched socks that she grabbed in the morning. "Not that you'd actually know anything about pairs you lonely witch" Jake said in a quieter tone as he ran off down the corridor. Heejin through her head back in frustration before chasing after him too. This year was gonna be heaps of fun.
