Heejin entered the cafe. She was 5 minutes early to when she needed to be there. Her father had taught her all about the importance of first impressions.
"We open in 10 minu-!" The pretty girl who Heejin had seen at the counter a few days before was currently filling containers with different varieties of coffee beans. She turned around to inform a customer that the cafe was not ready yet but realised it was a new worker instead. Her eyes that were once full of stress became soft and crescent shaped, as did her smile.
"Oh you're here! Come on in"
Heejin followed the worker into the back of the store, moving slowly and cautiously as to not knocking anything over. The cramped, compressed area did not help.
"I'm Wonyoung by the way"
"I'm Heejin"The kind girl lead Heejin to the end of the storage room and reached up to grab a wooden box labeled 'Aprons.' Her height was not gone unnoticed as she did not struggle to pick it up at all.
"Here"
A brown apron was given to her.
"Pop this on and then come up front so I can start training you"
Heejin held the clothing in her hand and began unfolding it.
"And a tip? Fold up the middle unless you wanna look like a nun"
They both laughed as she put it on. Wonyoung left the room leaving Heejin on her own. The Lee girl did as she was advised, folding the middle and making the apron shorter. She admired herself in a shiny machine that she could see her reflection from. Luckily, brown looked good on her. After getting through the obstacle of the room, she joined Wonyoung at the counter area where the drinks were made.
"So d'you know how to make a coffee? It's not a big deal if you don't, we make it a little different here anyways"
Heejin smiled at the girls reassuring manner.
"I can make it but I've never used half of these machines before"
The girl's eyes danced around the multiple coffee machines placed in a line. There were so many options which only confused Heejin."That's fine. That's why you're here anyways huh? Actually there's another guy that should be here soo-"
A tall boy opened the door. He was wearing a black cap which hid his face with a dark blue shirt and black cargos. His veiny hands were visible as he attempted to close the door gently. Heejin compressed her smile, this new guy's build was very noticeable and she couldn't help but check him out.
"That must be him"
Both girls looked at the figure walking towards the counter. His head that was once down came up as he removed his cap causing Heejin's eyes to widen and a gasp to escape her mouth.
"Jake?! What are you doing here?" She enquired.
"You guys know each other?" Wonyoung looked at Jake then Heejin, examining their strange dynamic. If they were friends surely Heejin's reaction would've been more happy but at the same time Jake's knowing smirk insinuated there was something even more between them.
"We're neighbours" Heejin answered quickly before Jake could give some stupid response.
"And classmates" he added."..O..K then..well let's get started Hm? Heejin, d'you mind showing Jake the back and getting him an apron?"
The astonished girl picked up her jaw and nodded. "Yeah..yeah sure" She turned around walking into the back of the store once again, hearing Jake's footsteps behind her.
"Are you seriously here for..work?" Heejin asked while leading him further in to the storage room.
"Yeah"
"Why?"
"Uh..work experience"
"Work experience?"
The Lee girl had a thick coat of disbelief in her voice.
"Yeah, I thought I should get used to being in a business before taking over my dad's one"
Heejin raised her eyebrows and abruptly stopped walking to turn around and face him. Jake bumped into her and stepped back out of muscle memory.
"Is that your plan? You're gonna run your dad's business?"
"Well..yeah yeah probably"
He bit his lip. Talking about his future felt almost pressuring despite the whole thing basically being planned out for him. On top of that the only reaction Heejin had was a hum. Not a pleasant one but not a disapproving one.She reached up for the box but was unsuccessful in pulling it down. Now was the Sim boy's chance. He walked up close behind her, making sure to have his torso brush against her back. Jake leaned down to whisper in her ear.
"I got it"
Heejin tensed up at the hot air that fanned against her neck, freezing as she watched an arm move over her and pick up the box with ease. She swallowed before moving out of the way and letting him pick out an apron while his intimidating gaze remained on her. He took one out and placed the box back.
Finally Jake's eyes left Heejin and moved to the apron. He let out a breathy chuckle as he unfolded it and checked the design. His attention went back to the girl in front of him.
"There's a party at Jay's tonight"
"I know"
"No surprise there..so you going?"
"Yup"
"Right well..see you there then" he grabbed her shoulder, giving it a squeeze and walking off, leaving Heejin in her frozen and crimson state.Little did the flustered girl know-Jake Sim had purposefully looked for where she was going to work, just so he could mess with her there too.
