I stood there watching his car until it disappeared. Thankfully, the rain had stopped so I was no longer getting clothes drenched but I felt mud which made me grimace. "I should get inside." Letting out a sigh, I grabbed my luggage and pushed it towards the front door. My heart skipped several beats as I stood outside.
I could hear my younger self laughing inside over the jokes that my father would crack and the way we both would team up against my mother. I can see my younger self, running through the small yard, dancing like a maniac while watering the plants that my mother loved taking care of.
As I was lost in my own haze, standing right outside the front door, I didn't realize when it opened, revealing my mother. "Y/n!" A smile broke on her face, her eyes twinkling as she stared at me. "Mom!" I quickly dropped my luggage and pulled her in a hug, despite the dirty clothes. "I missed you!" I exclaimed, pulling away to take a proper look at her. "Liar! You didn't even consider coming back during the holidays." She states, hitting my arm playfully.
Her eyes filled up with tears as she stroked my face, softly. "I called you everyday, mom." I muttered, biting down on my lips so I wouldn't shed a tear and show her that I had missed more than I could express. "It's different.." She took a closer look at me from the top of my head to my toes. "You've gotten thin,y/n. Were you not eating well, baby?" She asked as I twisted my lips and held her hand.
"I'm all good, mom! Trust me!" I inhale a sharp breath and the smell of warm homemade food hits my nostrils. "Oh my, what are you cooking?!" I exclaimed, my eyes twinkling with excitement. Now, hey no matter what kind of heaven you visit or go to, there's nothing more heavenly than homemade food.
Especially when it's cooked by your mother.
"Your favorite!" My mother smiles as I frowned before inhaling again. "Samgyeop-sal!!" I squealed as my mother nodded. "I'm starving! Are you planning to keep me standing here?" I questioned, blinking my eyes with a light pout on my face. The realization dawns upon my mother's face as she hits her head and then drags me inside.
I smile, ear to ear and ignore my surroundings as much as I can. The place is the same. It smells like home. "Did you fall into a puddle again?" My mother asked as I clicked my tongue. "Kind of." I shrug my shoulders while the lady glares at me. "Grow up." After earning a hit on my arm,I let out a hiss, followed by a chuckle. "Go and get freshen up! Now!" I nod my head at her before making my way towards my old bedroom.
"Jesus, y/n! You're creating a mess on the floor." I turn around to face her and offer her a smile. "I'll clean it." With that, I walk towards my room. Shutting the door behind me, I take a look around the place. Everything's in its place, my bed is clean, there's a flower pot on my bedside table with white tulips in them ; my mother must've kept it here.
