Vivienne's POV
—
I saw a bracelet on the floor. I bent down to pick it up and noticed it was Sophia's. I knew it was hers because she wore it every day at school until two months ago. My fingers traced the familiar patterns. I always wondered why she stopped wearing it.
I walked to the gate and on my way I saw Leila passing the gate. I frowned. "I thought Leila was sick" I whispered to myself.
I wanted to know where she was going, so I followed her shadow from the bushes until she stopped walking. I heard a car pull up and then her voice.
"Vivienne could see us," I heard Sophia whisper loud enough so I could hear her.
I was hiding in the bushes, trying to not get caught by Leila and Sophia, I knew something was going on with them. I tried to stay quiet so I could hear what both of them were trying to say.
"Don't whisper, Sophi," I heard Leila's voice say, "That blonde bitch won't see us." I clenched my fists at the way she called me, I tried to stay calm even though I wanted to get out of this bush so badly.
"Don't call her that, Leila," I heard Sophia's voice, I smiled at the way she defended me.
I glanced towards my house and saw my dog Aristotle trotting by the entrance. I held my breath, hoping he wouldn't spot me. When he finally turned back inside, I sighed in relief, turning my full attention back to Leila and Sophia's conversation.
"I want you." I heard Leila's voice.
My blood boiled. "Fucking bitch," I muttered, stunned by her words. I edged closer, trying to catch more of their conversation, but I stumbled over a trunk. The sudden crack of the wood made me freeze in place.
"Shit," I whispered, covering my mouth as I realized I might have been heard.
"Who 's that?" I heard Sophia yell my stomach churned, not only with the fear of being discovered but with the uncomfortable truth that I was envious of the connection they shared. I quickly slipped out from behind the bushes, my mind a whirlwind of anger and jealousy that I couldn't ignore.
After slipping away from the bushes, I hurried back toward my house, my mind still processing from what I had overheard. The unsettling image of Leila's words and the tension of the situation weighed heavily on me. Just as I reached the front entrance, I saw Christine emerge around the corner.
"Hi Christine," I said, approaching her, "How 's Leila?" I asked her suspiciously.
I knew that Christine and Leila were close friends, and I had no doubt that these two were best friends, and I know for a fact that Christine would cover up Leila's stuff just the same as Leila would cover her friend Christine.
"Ms Vivienne..." she murmured. "Uhm Leila, yeah she's fine, she's resting right now" she said. "She didn't want to call the doctor, she said she was fine" she uttered.
