THAT NIGHT (JOSHUA'S HOUSE) :-
Joshua was about to go to bed. But before he could, he recalled something. In the excitement of starting his first work in South Korea, he forgot to spend time with his mother. You might be wondering about their bond, especially after Jiah made comments after learning of her son's love interest.
Well, after a long conversation, they learned they had something in common when it comes to love: HEARTBREAK.
Anyway, returning to the present, Joshua took up his phone off the bedside table and contacted his mother. Surprisingly, his mother was awake at 11:45 p.m.
"Did you forget about your own mother, HONG JISOO!" Jiah said, unhappy.
"I had a lot of work, Ma," Joshua said. He then inquired about her well-being. This made his mother smile. She said:
"Everything's fine, it's only your father who's being goofy"
"Hey, I can hear you!" Joshua heard his father yell in the background.
"How's the company?" Jiah said, prompting her son to grimace. The woman saw the difference in Joshua's face and questioned
"Does Haein give you a lot of work? I can talk to her if you wan-." The lad interrupted her and said,
"It's not Haein, it's just that"
Joshua could not bring himself to speak his former lover's name.
"Just what?"
"Seokmin works here"
"Seokmin?" Jiah's mouth fell. "Seojin's son?"
Joshua nodded slowly. He elaborated: "Han, Ji, Won and Sam work there too"
"Your life sounds like a K-drama," Jiah quipped, prompting Joshua to whine, "Ma..."
"At least Seokmin doesn't work in your department right?"
Her son sneered and responded, "He's my assistant"
Jiah paused to reflect on the momentous events that were unfolding in Joshua's life.
"Maybe you should talk to him, Shua," urged the lady, to which Joshua shook his head.
" No Ma"
"That poor boy deserves to know the truth," said Jiah. "You broke his heart for nothing."
"I'm never telling him the real reason behind the break up" indicated Joshua.
"But-" The son interrupted her in the middle and suddenly bid her goodnight.
"Bye Ma"
Joshua disconnected the call. A part of him recognized that his mother was correct. But there was no purpose in informing him now. The flame between him and Seokmin had extinguished ago. They meant nothing to each other. The thing that drew him to his ex was simple fondness for the other. He was not going to let his prior emotions force him to become sleep-deprived, as they had throughout his university years.
