Haerin woke up the next day, the memories of the previous night still fresh in her mind. She sat up in bed, feeling a little nervousness.
Today was the day her mom and Minji would be coming to visit her.
Haerin was still sitting in her bed stretching when the doctor entered the room.
"Good morning, Haerin" he greeted her. "Are you ready for the MRI?"
She nodded.
"Alright, let's get going then" the doctor said, a hint of sympathy in his voice. He knew how much Haerin disliked these tests.
Haerin got up from her bed, her heart already filled with a sense of dread. She hated the MRI room. The small and cramped space, the loud clanking of the machine. But there was no avoiding it, so she forced herself to follow the doctor to the room.
She sighed as the doctor told her she had to wait to get her MRI. It seemed like there was always a line of people waiting for different tests in this damn hospital.
She sank into a chair in the waiting area, her eyes staring blankly at the wall in front of her.
When she was bored in a place like this, Haerin had a habit. She always looked around where she was and she chose one object. She tried to picture it with every single color she remembefed. It was fun for her and time moved faster like that.
Haerin's gaze shifted as a familiar figure appeared in the waiting room. Ms. Park, the kindest and most beloved nurse in the hospital, was pushing a wheelchair, a patient sitting in it.
Haerin's eyes fell upon the girl in the wheelchair. She looked about her age, with long, dark hair and soft features. Despite looking tired, there was something about her that drew Haerin's attention.
She couldn't help but notice the girl's smile. Being in a hospital wheelchair, the girl seemed to have a cheerful personality, her smile bright and contagious.
Ms. Park had left the girl in the wheelchair, and now she was sitting alone in the waiting area, a few chairs away from Haerin.
Haerin found herself stealing glances at the girl, as her curiosity grew.
The girl suddenly looked up and caught her eye. Haerin's heart skipped a beat, feeling a mix of surprise and embarrassment at being caught staring. She quickly averted her gaze, pretending to focus on something else.
As Haerin quickly looked away, trying to act nonchalant, she caught a glimpse of the girl smiling at her.
How could this girl keep smiling so naturally, despite being in a hospital?
Haerin's eyes widened as the girl slowly stood up from her wheelchair. She leaned against the chair for support, her legs a bit unsteady. Haerin watched in surprise as the girl took a few small steps forward, slowly making her way towards her.
"Danielle i swear- I told you to sit!!" Ms.Park said in the distance. "Why do we have to do this all the time you-"
"Yeah, yeah! You know I'm not going to stay still anyways, and I can walk thank you" said girl laughing.
Haerin listened to the conversation between the girl and Ms. Park. So, the girl's name was Danielle.
Danielle had made her way towards the seat next to Haerin. She looked up at Danielle, trying to keep a neutral expression but feeling a mixture of excitement and nervousness inside.
"Are you o-" Haerin tried to speak but her shy nature taking over, struggled to find the words.
She wanted to ask if Danielle was okay, but her voice was stuck in her throat. Instead, she simply nodded, her eyes darting away from Danielle's gaze.
