A bit later, as the sky blackened and the stars came out, I walked into the square. It was raining, and the only light came from Mipha's statue.
Link had been quiet all evening. Even though it hurt to think of, I had to accept the fact that, perhaps, his heart still belonged to Mipha. What was one-hundred years to me was just a matter of weeks-maybe months for him. I couldn't imagine what it had been like. Link had witnessed the death of the champions, the destruction of Hyrule, and had almost died on the same day. Then he woke up to my voice calling him in desperation, rushed to the castle with barely any memory of who I was, and freed me from Ganon. To Link, only a night had passed.
Suddenly, I spotted him, standing in front of the statue, gazing at Mipha's face with an unreadable expression. I walked over quietly and stood next to him.
Mipha looked so peaceful, and so kind. Like calm water with no ripples. Link sank to one knee, bowing his head in respect to the lost champion. I sank down onto my knees as well, saying a prayer for her soul to be at peace.
"I first met her when I was a child." I looked at Link. He looked...confused. Maybe conflicted. I swallowed. "She never saw me after that...until the Calamity. Before, she looked at me with the affection one has for a child. But...something changed." He looked at me. "They told me that she made the armour for me. Because she loved me."
I looked at the crystal floor. "Yes." I lifted my gaze again. His face was lifted, watching Mipha's face.
"It feels like it's only been months. I remember...fighting the guardians...and then a bright light. Then I woke up. Alone. With no memories, and scars on my back that I didn't recognize." He looked at me. "I remember a lot. I remember when she healed me as a child. And I remember when we were all gathered together before the Calamity struck...she was telling you about her healing magic."
I looked down. "That's right."
"I should've fought harder to protect everyone. I was too weak."
I took his hand. My tears mixed with the cool raindrops running down my face. "Please don't say that. You fought with your life."
Link
Zelda's voice cracked. "I almost wasn't able to save you." She put a hand on my cheek. A wave of warmth ran through me. "The reason I was able to summon my power was-"
She stopped. Quickly drawing her hand back, she stood. "Sorry. That was indecent of me." She turned and started walking away quickly. I jumped up.
"Zelda." She stopped.
"M-Maybe I need some rest. I'm s-sorry." Her voice wavered. "Goodnight."
She started walking, and I followed her. She turned back around. "You should take a walk. I'll be fine."
"But-"
"Please."
