Is it still a sacrifice, if you're not aware you're making one?

The note fisted in Sanyukta's hands begged to be released. She was facing a dilemma, her heart wanted to tie the note to Vaani's leg but her brain warned her to throw that note out of their moving carriage. When her pigeon had returned the morning of her birthday, Sanyukta's hopeful eyes had searched it's delicate legs for a peice of paper tied to it, but there had been none.

Her secret correspondant had not sent her anything.

Sanyukta wanted to pretend that it didn't bother her, but in all truth, it did. She had anticipated another quirky reply from her secret correspondant, that would make her forget all her troubles for the moment. She had wanted to write back too, something similarly witty, like she had before.

The note she'd written out of frustration burned a hole in her hand. She wanted to send it to her anonymous writer, the one who had enamoured her with a single question, the one who had healed her pigeon, the one she couldn't stop thinking about.

She read her words again, a resolve forming in her mind

She read her words again, a resolve forming in her mind. So she tied the note to her pigeon's leg, making sure to not hurt it, and whirled it out of their moving carriage. She watched as it fluttered it's wings and flew above the forest trees, breaking their canopy. I hope there's a reply to it. She thought, desperate.

Her thoughts swiveled back to the sword that was nestled on her lap and her smile faltered. She was a married woman now and her husband, he was the son of their vilest enemy. Her morals would not let her harm her husband but her duty towards her kingdom asked something else from her, something so sinister her insides shivered.

They were about to enter the city of Taransh, their two days of journey had tired Sanyukta. The royal carriage had the finest of horses, and it had still taken them two days to map the distance that took three days in a normal one. With her, were sent four of the best footmen, a troop of the bravest gaurds of Kritaksha and five handmaidens, to tebd to her needs. She didn't feel that alone after the realization.
