The next day, Freen couldn't stop thinking about Becky. She decided to visit the same place again, hoping for another encounter.
As luck would have it, she spotted Becky and her husband on a bench near the playground. Becky looked as fragile as a porcelain doll, her eyes cast downward, while Nop barked at her over some trivial matter.
Summoning her courage, Freen approached them. "Hey, I remember you from the other day. Is everything okay?"
Nop glared at her, his eyes cold and menacing. "You again? Can't you take a hint? Mind your own business."
Ignoring him, Freen addressed Becky directly. "Do you need help? You don't have to stay with him if you're scared."
Becky glanced at Nop, her fear evident. "I'm fine, really. Thank you for your concern."
Freen took a step closer, her voice gentle but firm. "You don't look fine. Please, let me help you."
Nop stood up, towering over Freen. "Back off! She said she's fine. Now get lost before I call the police."
Freen didn't budge. "You don't have to go with him, Miss. There are places you can go, people who can help you."
Becky’s eyes filled with tears as she looked at Freen, her resolve wavering. But then Nop grabbed her arm, his grip like a vise. "Come on, Becky. We're leaving."
Becky flinched, her body tense. She gave Freen a sorrowful look. "I'm sorry. I can't."
Freen's frustration boiled over. "You don't deserve this. You deserve to be safe and happy."
Nop yanked Becky toward the parking lot, his face twisted with anger. "I told you to stay out of this!"
As they walked away, Freen shouted after them, "I'll be here if you ever need help! Don't give up hope!"
Nop shoved Becky into the car, slamming the door shut before storming to the driver's side. Inside, Becky’s hands trembled as Nop started the engine. "Why can't you just listen?" he snarled, his voice dangerously low.
"I'm sorry, Nop. It won't happen again," Becky whispered, her voice barely audible over the sound of the car.
Freen watched them drive away, her heart heavy with worry and frustration. She couldn’t shake the image of Becky's fear-filled eyes. She knew she had to do something more, but what? The law could be slow, and she didn’t have much to go on.
Later that night, Freen sat at her desk, staring at the photos she had managed to take of Becky and Nop in the park. She knew she had to find a way to gather evidence, something to show the authorities that Becky was in danger.
Becky lay in bed, Nop’s harsh words echoing in her mind. She knew she had to stay strong, to endure for just a little longer. Maybe one day, she could find the courage to leave. Until then, the memory of Freen's concerned face was a small comfort in her dark world.
As Freen made plans, determination etched on her face, she vowed to not give up on Becky. She had to find a way to help her, to rescue her from the nightmare she was living.
After hours of contemplating, Freen became lost in her thoughts. She couldn’t pinpoint exactly why she was so eager to help Becky. She knew it wasn’t just about doing a good deed; there was something deeper within her, an unexplainable drive that she couldn't fully understand.
