The days blurred together for Becky, a haze of fear and submission. Nop's temper had grown more volatile, and his outbursts were more frequent. Each day felt like a minefield, and Becky treaded carefully, trying to avoid setting him off, but it was never enough.
One evening, after a particularly brutal argument over a trivial matter, Becky sat alone in the darkened living room. Nop had stormed out, slamming the door behind him, leaving Becky with bruises and a heart full of despair. She stared at the flickering shadows on the wall, her mind a whirlwind of thoughts and emotions.
"What happened to me?" she whispered to herself, her voice barely audible over the sound of her own heartbeat. She thought back to the woman she used to be, full of dreams and aspirations, and the harsh reality she now faced. The contrast was staggering.
Nop's words echoed in her mind, each one a dagger to her soul. "You're worthless. No one else would ever want you." She had heard it so many times that she had started to believe it. But there was a small, persistent voice inside her that whispered otherwise, a voice that had grown louder since her encounter with Freen.
Freen. The memory of her kind eyes and firm resolve gave Becky a sliver of hope, though it was overshadowed by fear. Could she really escape? Would anyone truly help her? The questions swirled in her mind, but the fear of Nop's retribution kept her paralyzed.
Her reflection was broken by the sound of the front door crashing open. Nop stumbled in, reeking of alcohol, his eyes wild with rage. "Becky!" he roared. "Where the hell are you?"
Becky froze, her heart pounding in her chest. She knew better than to respond immediately. Any wrong move could set him off even more.
Nop found her in the living room, his face twisted in fury. "Why didn't you answer me?" he demanded, grabbing her arm and yanking her to her feet. "You're always so useless!"
"I'm sorry," Becky stammered, her voice trembling. "I didn't hear you."
"Liar!" Nop's hand struck her across the face, sending her sprawling to the floor. "You think you can ignore me? I'll teach you a lesson you'll never forget."
Becky curled up on the floor, bracing herself for the blows. Each one landed with brutal force, pain radiating through her body. She wanted to scream, to fight back, but fear held her in its grip. Tears streamed down her face as she endured the beating, her spirit breaking with each passing moment.
When Nop finally stopped, he stood over her, panting heavily. "Remember this the next time you think about crossing me," he snarled before stumbling out of the room, leaving Becky in a crumpled heap on the floor.
For a long time, Becky lay there, sobbing quietly. Every part of her ached, both physically and emotionally. She felt utterly alone, isolated in her misery. The walls of her home, once a place of comfort, now felt like a prison closing in on her.
In the silence that followed, Becky started to reflect on her life. The memories of happier times seemed like distant dreams. She thought about the woman they met at the park, offer of help, the glimpse of hope she had seen in her eyes. Could she really trust someone to save her? The idea seemed impossible, yet it was the only light in her darkness.
As the night wore on, Becky made a decision. She couldn't continue living like this. She couldn't endure Nop's abuse any longer. She had to find a way out, no matter the cost. The thought of escape was terrifying, but the prospect of staying was even worse.
Slowly, painfully, Becky pulled herself up from the floor. She looked around the room, her vision blurred by tears. "I can't do this anymore," she whispered, her voice filled with a newfound resolve. "I need to get out."
Becky's breaking point had arrived. She was on the brink of giving up, but instead, she found a flicker of determination within herself. She didn't know how or when, but she vowed to find a way to escape Nop's grasp. It was her only hope for survival, and she clung to it with all her might.
