After several days of awkward tension and emotional distance between Becky and Freen, the once effortless connection between them feels strained. They’ve been tiptoeing around each other, neither willing to break the silence that hangs over them.
Freen, tired of the growing distance, can’t take it anymore. Her chest tightens every time Becky avoids her gaze, and she knows something has to give. One evening, after an especially tense dinner where they barely spoke, Freen decides it’s time to confront Becky.
She finds Becky sitting on the couch, staring blankly at the television. Freen hesitates for a moment, but the silence between them feels suffocating. Her heart pounds in her chest as she approaches.
“Becky, we need to talk,” Freen says, her voice firm but laced with worry.
Becky doesn’t look at her, her eyes still fixed on the screen. “About what?”
“About this,” Freen gestures between them, frustration creeping into her tone. “About us. What’s going on with you? You’ve been distant for days, and I’m sick of pretending everything’s fine.”
Becky’s jaw tightens as she mutes the TV. “Maybe because everything isn’t fine, Freen. You don’t get it.” she said avoiding her gaze.
Freen’s patience starts to wear thin. “Then help me understand. You’ve been shutting me out, and I don’t know why.” despite her frustration, she still manage to be calm. She doesn't want to hurt Becky and triggered her trauma just by raising her voice.
Becky finally looks at her, her eyes filled with a mix of uncertainty and hurt. “I’m not shutting you out, Freen. You’re the one who’s trying to fix everything—like you always do. And here I am, I still feel lost.”
Freen’s eyes narrow. “You know I'm always here to listen to you, right?”
Becky stands up, "Freen! Don't you get tired of me? I’ve been through enough—”
“I know what you’ve been through!” Freen interrupts, her voice slightly rising. “But that doesn’t mean you have to go through it alone. I can’t just stand by and watch you suffer when I—” She stops, breathing heavily, as if the next words are stuck in her throat.
“When you what?” Becky said confused, her eyes burning with emotion.
Freen runs a hand through her hair, struggling to find the right words. “When I—care about you so much that it drives me insane, okay? That’s why I’m doing this. That’s why I can’t just walk away or ignore what’s happening between us.”
Becky’s eyes widened, caught off guard by Freen’s admission. She takes a step back, her expression surprise and uncertainty. “Freen…”
“I’m not trying anything against you, or your will, ok?” Freen continues, her voice softer now, almost pleading. “I’m trying to understand you. But I don’t know how to do that when you won’t let me in.”
Becky stands there, her emotions swirling. The truth she’s been avoiding suddenly feels too close, too real. “I don’t know how,” she whispers, though the words sound hollow even to her. “I just…I’m scared, Freen. Scared of what happens if I let you in. Scared of losing everything again. Scared of repeating the same mistake I did.”
Freen steps closer, her voice gentle but steady. “I’m scared too, Becky. But you can’t keep running from this. From me. Please hear me out.”
They stand in silence for a moment, the weight of everything they’ve been avoiding hanging in the air between them. Becky lowers her gaze, her breath shaky. “I didn’t want this to happen. I didn’t want to feel anything. But you…”
Freen’s heart skips a beat. “But I what?”
Becky’s voice trembles as she finally admits the truth. “But you're not leaving my mind day and night, I can't stop thinking about you and it terrifies me.”
Freen’s breath catches in her throat. She hadn’t expected to hear those words, even after all the tension between them. “You’re not the only one,” Freen says softly, her eyes locking with Becky’s as she reaches for her cheeks. “I’ve been fighting it too.”
Becky looks up, her heart racing as she processes Freen’s confession. “You have?”
Freen nods, her voice almost a whisper. “I don’t know how it happened, but…I’ve fallen for you too. That’s why I’ve been acting the way I have. I just didn’t know how to deal with it.”
For a moment, the air between them feels still, charged with the weight of their unexpected confessions. All the anger and frustration dissolve, leaving only vulnerability in its place.
“I’m sorry,” Becky says softly, her eyes glistening with unshed tears. “I didn’t mean to push you away.”
Freen steps more closer, gently reaching for Becky’s hand. “I’m sorry too. I shouldn’t have pushed so hard.”
They stand in the quiet of the room, hands intertwined, both feeling a sense of relief wash over them. It wasn’t the conversation they expected to have, but it was exactly what they needed.
Becky’s eyes, glistening with unshed tears, met Freen’s with a softness. It was as if all the tension, all the fear, had melted away, leaving only the raw truth of what they both felt.
Without thinking, Freen lifted her other hand and gently cupped Becky’s cheek. “I don’t want to lose this… lose you,” she whispered, her voice barely audible.
Becky swallowed hard, her breath shaky as she leaned into Freen’s touch. “Thank you,” she whispered back, her voice full of emotion.
Their eyes lingered on each other, then, slowly, almost hesitantly, Freen closed the gap between them. She leaned in, her lips softly brushing against Becky’s in a tender kiss—gentle at first, like testing fragile ground.
Becky responded, her hands finding their way to Freen’s shoulders, pulling her closer. The kiss deepened, no longer tentative but filled with the unspoken emotions they had both been holding back for so long.
In that moment, everything else faded away. The world around them disappeared, and all that mattered was the warmth of their kiss, the feeling of finally letting go of the walls.
