Afternoon in the bungalows and the wind blew the small curtains in the kitchen.

There was not the usual hustle and bustle outside, most of the others had gone home for a yearly spring break.

You were making Sour-Cherry Crumble Bar. A recipe that you had tucked away in a notebook when originally coming to the island; almost a year ago.

You had made memories on this island, even being here for so short a time. Juliet worked with you in the fertility ward, Harper was your therapist, Ethan a doctor and friend, and of course others.

There was also Ben, the two of you were relatively close- but you thought him and Juliet were closer.

All of them were staying, so no need to go back to the main land, a current political nightmare.

So you had retrieved different ingredients from you own (and others) pantry's and fridges to bake.

3 knocks at your door, "who is it?"
"Ben."
"Come in."

He opened the door and looked to find your hands red with cherry juice on the kitchen counter. Separating the seeds from its berry.

"Is there anything I can for you Ben?"
"No, just making my rounds." Looking around at your home, he noticed he hadn't really been inside before; nothing was familiar.

"Mhm. I thought you wouldn't do that. For the duration of the break anyways."
You said, flicking a cherry seed from your hand.

"Keeps me busy."
"Ah...Do you want a job?"

He turned from the shelves, he did not respond but simply cocked his head.

"To keep you busy. Come here."

He walked over, hands in pockets.
"I'm cutting up these into quarters and I want you to pick the seed out of em', then put em' in that bowl. Make this process go a lot faster."

You know he didn't like to be bossed around.

But the feeling of bowing down and never asking anything of the man seemed unfair and favoritism.

Ben did not appreciate being told what to do.

But it was a small thing, and it would begin to rack up your debt of servitude to himself.

The only way Ben could convince himself to do such an inconvenient task was making himself believe it would do him good in the long run.

So he rolled up his sleeves and waited for you to cut another cherry.

"Easy enough."
He picked up the berry and tore quarters off to reach the seed. Extracting it with more force than worst he thought he would need.

"Harder than I thought," he said placing them in two separate bowls.
"Yeah," you laughed, "it's really wedged in there."

It went on for about 3 minutes, cutting and picking, cutting and picking.
