Ishu's POV:
"Let's give it a shot." The words I spoke earlier keep replaying in my mind. I nervously bite my inner cheek after saying that, feeling the awkwardness and intensity in the room escalate. I have never felt this way before, at least not with Shubman. When I look him in the eye, I see a glow on his face, as if he has been eagerly waiting for this moment forever. Neither of us can find the words to say; my heart feels heavy. I am not ready for any of this. I don't want to let him down or break his heart. But, I also feel curious.
We sit there in a long, awkward silence, the weight of my words hanging between us. Every second feels like an eternity. The room seems to shrink, the walls closing in as I search for something to break the tension. My mind races, but my mouth refuses to cooperate. Shubman shifts his weight, his eyes never leaving mine, both of us caught in this strange, intense moment.
Are fake boyfriends supposed to kiss when we're alone in a room? But we already did that.

Shub's POV:
My eyes flicked down to his lips again, wanting to confidently surge into a kiss but I couldn't.I had used up all of my 'confidence' in confessing, well it wasn't a proper confession but something is better than nothing.I could hear my heart pounding in my ears as desperation crawled into my senses, with every part of me yearning for more.I knew this might be my first and last chance with Ishan, and I couldn't afford to fuck it up.
Just as I was about to say something to diffuse the sexual tension before I pounce on him without thinking;
DING.
Both of our phones lit up with a message. "Er," Ishan said, awkwardly smiling and scratching his head. I've never been so grateful for a disturbance during my alone time, Ishu.I grabbed my phone, which was right beside me, while Ishu looked at me with his curious eyes, assuming it was a message from the cricket group—after all, who else would text us at midnight? He was waiting for my response. "Oh, it's from the cricket group," I said. "Vi Bhai texted: 'Don't stay up late; we've got to check out at 1 p.m'"'
'Yeah, he's right. Let's get some sleep" , Ishu agreed, hurrying to his side of the bed and completely burying himself under the blanket.I followed suit, pulling my covers up and turning off the lights.

Ishu's POV:
Lying in bed that night, I couldn't shake the image of Shub's face, so close to me, the warmth of his breath mingling with my own. I replayed the moment over and over in my mind, trying to dissect every sensation experienced. My pulse raced, not from fear or discomfort, but from a newfound awareness of a connection I had never fully acknowledged before.
The room was filled with the rhythmic beating of our hearts and Shub's little snores. I tossed and turned restlessly in bed, with the realization that my feelings for Shub might be far deeper than I had ever admitted. In the darkness, I traced back their friendship, now seeing it through a different lens. Recalling all the times Shub had made me laugh, the moments we had shared secrets, and the comfort i found in him. But now, everything was tinged with a new intensity. The kiss had changed everything, stirring emotions that could no longer be ignored or denied.

Shub's POV:
I couldn't help but feel a deep sense of contentment. The events of the day replayed in my mind like a cherished film reel. I shifted comfortably under the covers, a faint smile playing on my lips. It wasn't just the softness of the pillow or the warmth of the blanket that eased me into a peaceful sleep—it was the knowledge that I was technically with my boyfriend right now, well fake boyfriend but its the same thing for me minus the risk of confessing and getting rejected. In that moment, lying beside Ishu, I felt a sense of completeness. I closed my eyes, letting myself drift into meanwhile Ishu was by my side, a constant presence in my thoughts and heart. For the first time in a long while, sleep came easily to me.
The following morning, as sunlight filtered through the curtains, I awoke with a smile still lingering on my lips. I reached my arm over to feel his presence but my eyes sprung open when I felt the empty bed. Instantly sitting up and scanning the room. Perhaps he had gone to the bathroom or to get breakfast, I reasoned, trying to dispel the sudden unease that gripped me. I stood up to examine the room better when I noticed the bedside table. My heart skipped a beat when i saw a small piece of paper there. With trembling fingers, I picked it up and it read:"Shub, had to step out for a bit. Be back soon. - Ishan"

bonus story: (making up to yall cuz we went missing for 7 months 🥰)
(these are like flashbacks)

Shub was stuck in his dorm room, feeling miserable with a fever that had knocked him out of cricket practice. The sounds of his teammates having a blast outside only made him feel worse—he hated missing out. His phone buzzed with a text.
Ishan: Hey :( heard you're down with fever.
Hope you're taking care of yourself ^_^Shub managed a weak smile and replied with a quick thanks. Throughout the day, Ishan kept him updated with what happened at practice.
Later in the afternoon, there was a knock on his door. Ishan stood there with a bag of groceries and a huge grin. "Hey cutie, nurse Ishan reporting for duty!"
Shub couldn't help but laugh at Ishan's playfulness . "You really don't have to do all this.""No worries, I'll bring you up to speed," Ishan assured him, setting the groceries down. He unpacked soup ingredients and started preparing a meal while Shub rested on the bed.As Ishan chopped veggies and stirred the pot, he stuck colorful sticky notes around the room with silly drawings and encouraging messages. "For your viewing pleasure," Ishan joked as he plastered one on the lamp and another on the fridge. Shub couldn't help but chuckle,"You're going all out, aren't you?"Ishan shrugged, flashing a smile. "Just trying to make you feel better. And hey, someone's gotta take care of you." He winked at Shub, "Though I must admit, taking care of you isn't exactly a chore."
As the evening wore on, Ishan's presence was a comfort to Shub. They talked about everything from cricket strategies to their favorite movies. At one point, Ishan teased Shub about his messy bookshelf, rearranging books and pretending not to notice the way Shub watched him, admiring the care he took in every small action.By the time Ishan left, promising to check on him again soon Shub felt oddly cheery despite his lingering fever. Later that night, snuggled up in bed amidst Ishan's sticky notes and the lingering aroma of homemade soup, Shub couldn't help but realize his feelings for Ishan were more than just friendly. Ishan's caring nature and playful vibe had stirred something deep inside—a sudden realization that maybe Ishan meant more to him than he'd ever realized.
