(Name) never remembered anything about her past, except when Lord Toshitsugu took her in his family at a very young age along with Izutsumi, or at least that's what their older brother Toshiro had told her.

They offered (name) a hot meal, a relaxing soak in a warm bath, and some comfortable clothes to change into.

She didn't know why the Lord took her in either, sometimes she thought that he just felt sorry for her and adopted (name).
However, she was glad she finally found shelter.

A place to call home.

Or so she thought.
.

She wasn't allowed to go outside unless someone was with her or if her beastly features were covered up.

Although there was no point in hiding them, everyone in the village already knew.
The residents often gossiped about how she was only a bad omen, others said she didn't deserve to be taken in such a noble home, and others even accused her of stealing from one of the stalls of fresh produce.

Corridors filled with whispers followed her wherever she went.

The gossips didn't help with her reputation, she had difficulty making friends with the kids in the village.

"Leave us alone monster."
Was all she heard from other people her age.

Despite the struggles to fit in, she learned how to cope with it. Her room became her sanctuary, the door locked tight against the outside world.
The day bled into night unnoticed.

(Name) didn't know how to describe her relationship with her older brother Toshiro, the two of them never fought but never shared a laugh together either. They only saw each other as two people who lived in the same household.

"Toshiro, do you think I'm a monster?"

Her and Toshiro were opposites, but she looked up to him.

It felt refreshing for someone to see her other than a monster.

"Hey Toshiro, aren't you embarrassed to have a beast in your family?"

"Yeah, I heard your sister's a thief!"

"Eugh.. your sister's a beastman?"

Everyone around town including my friends would be asking about my adopted sister and what my opinions were about her, but even myself didn't know the answer to that.

The first few months after they took her in I wasn't that all close to (name), but as she got more comfortable with our family, so did I.

I had always thought that (name) was more stronger than me physically and emotionally, and as a kid I envied that.

I envied a lot of parts about her.

Since joining the family, she's often trained with me and my Father.

Our training included wielding the tachi sword and combat techniques, our upbringing forged us into warriors.

Despite our unlike personalities, we both excelled in combat.

Our training forged a strong bond, like siblings though not by blood.

We challenged each other, grew stronger together, and became close companions.

______________________________

I was the only one who actually acknowledged (name's) behaviour when she wouldn't get out of her room.

I noticed how she only ate small portions of food, always stayed inside, and rarely socialized with anyone.. this went on for months.

"(Name), please eat your food."
Is what I'd always told (name), sometimes she would cooperate but there where times where she'd also say,
"I'm not hungry."
And would starve herself for days.

When I was a kid I never got why, why she would lock herself up in her room.

But the longer this went on the more I fully understood.

I yearned to take away her burden.

It got to the point where I would hear my father storm in her room.
I would hear yelling and screams of pain. furniture getting launched against the wall and floorboards..

.. then eventually it would always end to sounds of (name) crying.

"(Name)? What happened?"
I kneeled down facing where she was sitting on the floor with her face buried in her arms.

Books once neatly shelved, now spilled across the floor, the chairs and desk were now faced sideways, and the sheets on her bed was torn down.

A glance at her room was all it took for me to see that she was struggling.

"(Name) stop crying."
My attempts to comfort her fell flat.
I just wasn't good at that kind of thing.

"Toshiro, do you think I'm a monster?"
(Name's) voice trembled, as she looked up with tear-filled-eyes.

"You're my sister, that's all that matters."
