Fifteen years earlier...

The room of the loft apartment was dimly lit, and the air was thick with the scent of incense. Christina Natchios, adorned in a dark cloak, sat before an ornate chest. As she opened it, the room seemed to come alive with a mysterious energy. Nestles inside the chest were the Twin Sai, gleaming in the subdued light.

"These blades are not just weapons," Christina spoke with a mesmerising tone, "but they carry a history, a legacy, and a power beyond the understanding of most."

Elektra watched in awe as her mother traced a finger along the intricate patterns etched into the Sai's handles.

"They were forged from ten thousand layers of hand-forged steel," Christina continued, her eyes alight with a mixture of pride and solemnity. "Each layer infused with the soul of a fallen warrior."

Elektra's young mind struggled to comprehend the weight of her mother's words. She reached out tentatively, running her fingers along the smooth metal of the Sai.

"What does it do?" She asked, her voice barely above a whisper.

"To trap the souls of their enemies," her mother explained. "To ensure that justice is served, even in death. They have a connection to the spiritual realm. Legends say they can trap the souls of those they touch, binding them to the steel itself. Your path will be marked by these blades, my darling. Use them wisely, and they will aid you in your quest for justice."

The flashback dissipated, leaving Elektra in the present, the Twin Sai in hand. The morning sun cast long shadows over the serene cemetery. It was quiet, save for the gentle rustle of autumn leaves in the breeze and the distant sound of birdsong, stirring emotions that lay dormant in Elektra's heart. As she knelt before the gravestones, a sense of peace washed over her - a fleeting moment of solace amidst the chaos that had engulfed her life. The fight with Kraven had been brutal, but she had emerged victorious.

And now she had a new lead in her quest for justice.

"Hey," a familiar voice called out, breaking the silence.

Elektra turned to see Victor standing beside her, his presence bringing warmth to the cool morning air. She welcomed his company, grateful for the silent support he offered.

"We got a name," Elektra began, her voice barely above a whisper. "Hammerhead. It's the next clue - a piece of the puzzle that could lead us to the truth about what happened to my parents."

As they stood together, Victor felt a surge of emotions welling up inside him. The events of the night had brought him face to face with his true feelings, and now, he knew he couldn't keep them hidden any longer. The detective leaned in a placed a gentle kiss on her cheek, eliciting a smile from Elektra. But as she looked into his eyes, she sensed there was something more he wanted to say.

"There's something I've been wanting to tell you," Victor began, his voice hesitant yet determined. "When I was up there, and I thought I was gonna die... there was only one person who I was thinking of. And it wasn't who I thought it'd be."

Elektra listened intently, her heart skipping a beat as Victor's words washed over her.

"It was you, Elektra," he confessed, his smile widening. "I kept thinking: 'I hope I can make it through this... so I can see her face one more time'."

His hand reached out to touch her cheek, and Elektra felt a rush of warmth spread through her.

"Really?" She managed to whisper, feeling her cheeks flush.

"There's only one person who's always been there for me," the detective declared. "Who makes me feel like... like I'm more than I ever thought I could be. That I'm just... me. And that's okay. The truth is... I love you. I love you so much, Elektra."

Elektra's heart ached at his words, and for a moment, she was torn between the longing in his eyes and the harsh reality of the situation. She knew the danger she posed to him, the darkness that lurked in the shadows of her past. She couldn't risk dragging him into her world—a world stained with blood and vengeance.

"I appreciate your honesty, Victor," Elektra vowed, her voice tinged with sincerity. "I want you to know... that I will always be there for you. I promise you that."

She knew what she had to do.

"I will always be your friend," Elektra concluded softly, her words hanging in the air between them.

"Only a friend... Elektra Natchios?" Victor's voice cracked with hurt, his eyes searching hers for answers.

"I warned you; you can never trust somebody who's only after blood. That's all I have to give."

At that moment, she embraced him with a final kiss, feeling his love and longing evident in the touch of his lips against hers. But despite the depth of Victor's feelings, Elektra remained resolute in her decision. She couldn't risk Victor getting tangled in the web of danger in her life. She couldn't bear the thought of him suffering because of her choices.

With a bittersweet smile, Elektra gently pulled away from his embrace, her eyes filled with sorrow and regret as she walked away from the man she loved and left the cemetery, knowing that it was the only way to keep him safe.

And so, their paths diverged once more, destined to follow separate journeys yet forever intertwined by the echoes of the past and the unspoken words of a love that could never be.

The end... or perhaps, just the beginning.
