Chapter 11: Fried Duck

Standing on opposite ends of the arena, two birds about to face off against one another. Subaru was gripping her bat, eyes locked onto Kiara as the phoenix was also glaring at the duck.

Subaru tried to hype herself up by doing some hoping, alternating from one leg to the other. Gripping her baselball on her other hand, preparing to batter up the ball as soon as the gates open.

Kiara was doing some stretches, her confident smile plastered on her face as she then summoned her trustworthy weapons.

The crowd was divided into two groups, the ones cheering for Subaru and the others cheering for Kiara. A-chan watched as the clock counted down toward the five second mark, she then lowered herself onto the mic and then announced.

"Competition begins in Five... Four... Three... Two... One..."

The gates opened up for the two, and two blurs dashed forward from the openings. One was the phoenix and the other was a baseball.

True to her intentions, Subaru battered the baseball towards Kiara and then followed up with the cleaver, as the immortal warrior raised her shield to block it. As soon as the ball connects with the surface of her shield, the ball then explodes into a big ball of fire and fragments.

Kiara was shook by said explosion, didn't think that Subaru could even carry around such a device. When she lowered her shield down, she saw her opponent rushing in towards her and swung her bag.

Kiara parried with her shield and then countered with a flaming slash, but Subaru blocked it with all her miht, she braced herself as she was holding down the weight of Kiara's swings, she then kicked the phoenix away as she then followed up with a fury of swings from her bat.

The phoenix warrior blocked each of Subaru's swings and then makes some space between them by flipping her way airborne. She aimed the tip of her blade towards Subaru and shot out a beam of fire.

Subaru barely dodged the attack, an explosion following up as the beam makes contact with the ground sends her back a bit, stumbling on her legs, she barely managed to brace herself as Kiara swung her blade towards her.

A trail of blaze following the blade every time Kiara swings it leaves a lot of people in awe, giving her a slight advantage when it comes to her fights, but Subaru already saw her flames so many times over the years she has worked with her, so she was at least prepared for it.

Surprisingly for many of the audience, This fight has been going on longer than they expected. They were speculating that Kiara was holding back a lot to keep it more interesting. But even as Kiara puts more and more effort into her swings, Subaru was slowly but surely keeping up with her swings.

This of course surprised even the likes of Subaru herself, with how well she was doing, she was getting a bit suspicious... then it hit her.

Kiara swept Subaru off balance using her leg, she then followed up with a upward slash and a front kick. Sending Subaru back as the air escaped from her lungs, she clenched her chest as she tried to breathe in the air she just lost.

It was the that Kiara was in front of her, her blade stug up onto the ground as she offered her hand to help her up. Subaru reached in to accept it but then realized something.

"Hey... The round isn't over."  Kiara's eyes widened as Subaru grabbed her forearm to pull her close for a punch to the head. It connected to her nose and then Subaru dashed forward to pick up Kiara's sword for herself.

When Kiara was done fixing herself up, she saw Subaru dual wielding her baseball and Kiara's sword.

"Ironic, I could almost admire the audacity!" She then switched her Shield's position towards her dominant hand. "But, you do know you're not gonna win regardless, right?"
