Otto knew that the second he stepped inside the rooms Lord Corlys had given the king, he was in for a talk. And the worst part of it was that he knew the king would be right. It wad unbecoming for Alicent, of all people, to openly attack somebody like this - especially the princess - no matter how much reason she thought she had on the matter. Still, it wasn't about that that Otto wanted to talk to the king about, so if the old man wanted to ramble on and on about what had happened in the Hall of Nine earlier that evening, so be it.
"Your daughter, my wife, the queen!" Viserys raged, sitting in his bed as Otto stood off to the side, just watching him. "How could she have done this? What was she thinking?"
"I don't think her grace was thinking at all in that moment, your grace." Otto said, calmly, hoping not to anger his king even more.
"All the worse." King Viserys shook his head, coughing strongly after rambling for so long. "Is that what happens when the queen loses her temper? She attacks innocent people?"
"I am sure the Queen Alicent deeply regrets her actions." Otto said, biting his tongue as to not argue against Viserys' mention of the princess Rhaenyra as innocent in all this. "I will talk to her myself, your grace, see that something like this does not happen again."
"Good." Viserys nodded, before coughing again, as Otto waved one of his maids over and quietly asked for some milk of the poppy.
"For the pain, your grace." Otto said. It wasn't completely a lie.
"Thank you, Otto." Viserys said, allowing his other maids to help him lay down and get comfortable for bed. "Is there anything else?"
"I am aware his grace must be tired now, but there is, in fact, another matter I wish to discuss with you."
"Can it wait until the morrow?" King Viserys asked, accepting some milk of the poppy from another of his maids.
"I'm afraid, my king..." Otto said. Yes, it could, in fact, wait until the morrow, but Otto always found the king to be more compliant when he was tired and pumped full of milk of the poppy. "It is something to be discussed now. The sooner the better, at least."
"Very well..." The old man sighed as he laid back against his pillows. "Tell me."
"I think it's time we start discussing more deeply the union between prince Aegon and princess Valora." Otto said.
"The children?" Viserys asked.
"I'm afraid they are no longer children, your grace."
"Are they not?" Viserys frowned, confused.
Otto did not know if that was because the king was too full of milk of the poppy or simply because he did not, in fact, know how old his own children were anymore. He chose not to ask.
"Prince Aegon has just completed thirteen years of age, your grace." He said instead. "And the princess Valora has been a woman grown for a while now. She's just about to turn fifteen."
"Yes, yes, of course." Viserys waved a hand around, dismissively.
"The two of them have been betrothed for just as long, your grace, the people are starting to wonder." Otto continued. "So it is my understanding that it would be for the best to have them married as soon as possible. As soon as we get back to King's Landing, I am certain the Queen Alicent would be more than happy to deal with the preparations."
"Yes, of course." Viserys nodded. "If you think that is for the best, let's marry the children then."
Otto nodded his head then, taking his leave as the king settled for a night's sleep. Walking out of the royal chambers and away from the king's guards, Otto fought hard to fight a smile. Marrying Aegon to Valora would strengthen the Targaryen name and with the decadent health of the king, Otto thought he could start putting his plan into action sooner rather than later. All he needed was for Valora to be a better breeder than her mother had been so she could give Aegon a son soon.
