You followed Jack in silence as he walked deeper into the woods, your frustration began to dissipate and was replaced with curiosity as you took in your surroundings. The trees and foliage around you looked like those of any normal forest, but some dark and ominous force seemed to emanate from the area as if there was some kind of evil presence watching from between the branches and in the shadows.
You shuddered at the thought, shaking it off as you tried to convince yourself that it was nothing more than your imagination, this wasn't a stupid horror movie.
Still, you couldn't help but feel as if something or someone was lurking in the woods.
You remembered the photos you had previously taken of the skull and decided to take the chance and ask Jack about it.
"Jack?" you began. He looked back at you briefly, and you continued.
"Before that... "proxy" person found me, I came across something. I took pictures" you held out your camera, you felt hopeful.
He sighed coming to a stop and took your camera, he flicked through the photos of the skull.
"Animal skull eh?," he responded, handing back your camera. His comment was short and to the point, leaving little room for interpretation or further questions.
You glared at him, thoroughly confused by his apparent disregard for your concerns.
"Jack," you started, wanting his attention.
"Yeah?" he said, walking away.
You quickly caught up to him and pulled on his shoulder, turning him to face you as you stared up at him with a firm look in your eyes.
"Tell me what's going on, thats not a fucking animal skull" you said sternly, not wanting to deal with his indifference any longer.
Jack tilted his head like he always does.
"You'll be too scared," he said, his tone almost amused as he looked you over.
"Jack..." you started again, this time with more urgency and forcefulness.
"I'm a journalist," you explained, "I need to know! Do you not want to help the people that get killed in here?" you pressed on, your frustrations and worries building as you awaited his response.
However, you were met with silence and dismissal as Jack suddenly turned his head away from you, his attention diverted towards rustling in the trees.
"Are you even liste-" you began, before being cut off by Jack's voice.
"Shut up," he whispered, his tone harsh and cold, he body tensed up as he scanned the trees behind you.
"Aren't you going to give the poor soul their answers, Jack?" you heard a low chuckle come from behind the two of you, breaking the tense silence and pulling your attention away from your anger at jack.
Jack scoffed as he turned away from you and the unknown source of the voice, his body language relaxing once again despite his growing irritation.
It was clear that this person was not a threat, but instead an irritation and annoyance for him.
"What do you want, you crazy fuck?" he inquired, turning his attention back towards the unknown figure.
"Fast food tonight Jack?" The voice responded, it's maniacal laughter filling your ears.
You stepped back and bumped into a brunette young man who was of the same height as you.
Upon seeing his face, you noticed a horrific gash covering much of his cheek, and a putrid oozing pus seeping from the gaping wound. The surrounding flesh was clearly rotting and infected, looking as if a festering, foul and decaying wound had been ripped open, exposing the foul and diseased tissue beneath.
