You opened your eyes and groaned as you surveyed your surroundings; you lay on your back, looking up at the starry night sky among the tall trees.
You noticed a black creature watching you from your peripheral vision and sat up quickly. Looking around carefully, you realised that you were at the lake, and you felt confused. The metallic smell of blood still wafted off you, and your head felt like it was spinning.
The figure watched you curiously, moving closer and looking like a shadowy being with a strange face. It was taller than you and reached its long, boney fingers out in front of you.
Putting your hand in its and letting it pull you to your feet, you felt comfortable in its presence, as if there was an underlying trust that made you feel safe. The figure took you towards the lake and guided you into the water, slowly, as you allowed it to move your body as if you were in a trance.
The moon beamed down against the water, casting a glittering reflection on its surface. The sound of the sloshing water between the creature and you was peaceful and calming.
Your shoes filled with water and the cold ran up your body, leaving you shivering with a cold ache in your bones, you stopped once the water splashed up to your waist. The creature turned and tugged your hand gently, inviting you to come along with it. You shook your head and stepped back, feeling uneasy and unsure.
Then, without warning, the creature place an hand on your head and slowly dunked you under the water.
Instant silence.
Your hair flowed through the water, and your body felt light, as it was now submerged, you didn't fight back. The pretty blue water turned a dark crimson as the blood seeped off your clothes. You let all your senses go. You felt the peace of the silence, and the hand pushing your head down.
In this state of calmness, you barely noticed the fact that you were gasping for air and the sensation of your lungs burning. You were now clutching at nothing, as you began to feel your hands starting to slip away, and you realised that you were dying.
It felt like you were watching yourself struggle, the creature grip on you never loosened you had no chance, this was it. It's face was now gleaming above the water, and you couldn't fight the urge to stop struggling any longer.
You felt yourself float further down into the lakes and the blackness invaded your thoughts as the water flooded your lungs. You accepted your fate and just let yourself float deeper and deeper down into the lake, as the air and life slowly escaped from your body.
You wondered if you would go to heaven, as your parents had always preached the words of the Lord to you. Would He save you now, or would you remain here.
You felt yourself being pulled up and your body started to resist, your breath catching in your chest, you were being pulled away from the peace and quiet that you had just felt.
Would you be an angel, or would you cease to exist?
You were dragged against the rocky lake shore and the rough rocks scratched you harshly as the last of your consciousness faded away. You heard a voice yelling, but it was muffled and incoherent, and you wondered if this was really the end.
Where would you go, and what would you do now?
Would you remain in heaven as an angel, or would you drift endlessly through time and space as a soul forever unmoored in the afterlife, hell maybe?
"Y/N wake up," you heard the gentle voice of the little girl that had been with you before you passed out.
Would you have wings like angels that you would trace with your fingers in the stories your mother made you read?
