It was the dead of night. Everyone in the house had fallen asleep within their own respective and private quarters... or at least that's how it was perceived.
Carmilla was in her bed asleep. But having drunk nothing all day, her body forced itself to wake up in need of hydration to keep itself functioning. She didn't want to have to get up, especially at this time of night, but thirst can go a long way.
She got up from her bed and left the room, walking down the stairs towards the kitchen for a glass of water. Once Carmilla had a glass in her hand, she heard footsteps heading out of the hallway towards the front door... it was open.
Carmilla turned around and saw a dark humanoid figure walking from within the house's shadows toward the outside. It looked like it was carrying baggage of a sort. Out of curiosity, Carmilla crouched down and quietly followed the figure out of the house into the moonlit outdoors.
Once outside of the door, she caught a good look at who it was. "Exxe..?" Carmilla called out, standing back up. The man turned around in shocked surprise, revealing the kids behind him. "Magenta? Illumin? What's going on?" Carmilla questioned.
"Uhh... w-what are you doing out of bed Mrs. Carmilla?" Exxe also questioned. "With all due respect, I asked you first-" Carmilla softly retorted. Behind Exxe however, she saw an absurd amount of bags in the backseat of his car. Bags that came from the house...
"Wait, that's half of all we have..!" Carmilla pieced together, looking at Exxe with disbelief. Exxe reached into his pocket and withdrew a gun, pointing it at Carmilla. A Glock revolver to be exact. Also a stolen weapon.
"Hands up. Now." Exxe demanded. This surprised both Carmilla and the kids. No one was expecting him to go this far. Listening to his instruction, Carmilla put her hands up slowly. "You even took one of our weapons... why?" Carmilla asked. Exxe didn't answer.
"I don't want to kill you. You're a good person. The world needs people like you to stay in it... so please, let us go without trouble. You can survive without us. This is just for me and my family." Exxe reasoned, eyes looking directly at Carmilla's blindfold, which purposefully blocked her ocular appearance.
"Exxe, please don't do this. Think about the others, your kids. You know they wouldn't want you to do this. Have a sense of pride." Carmilla spoke out to him. For a moment, Exxe looked down at Illumin, then at his side Magenta before looking back at Carmilla, not dropping his aim.
"You don't have to do this," Carmilla said. Exxe sighed with a mixed signal of apathy and sympathy. "As a man and father, I have to do this. You'd understand-" Exxe uttered. Before he could do anything else, Serenity jumped from the second floor onto Exxe with a knife at her side.
They both hit the ground with an embarrassing thud. Exxe tried to aim the gun at Serenity, but her constant attempts at redirecting the aim and restraining Exxe's arms made all of his attempts to shoot her useless.
Gunshots echoed in the dead of night. Misfire after misfire. "Guys please, stop! Don't fight. Please stop!" Carmilla begged desperately. After wrestling on the ground for two and a half minutes, Serenity manages to snatch the gun out of Exxe's hands and shoot him in the shoulder.
Exxe screamed in pain, grabbing his shoulder. Serenity jumps up, standing over Exxe with a gun to his head. Everyone else who resided inside the house had just ran out of the front door at this time. Ianessa held an 1878 shotgun, and Zakariyya handled a G9. No one else came with a firearm.
"Okay, how many heads we gotta-Exxe? Serenity?" Zakariyya raised a brow at their current position. They turned to the kids and Carmilla, who stood to the side during all of this. "Carmilla, what happened?" Ianessa asked.
"H-he was going to drive off with his kids and steal half our stuff, I think.." Carmilla answered. "What the fuck?!" Atlas swore. "Give me a second," Zakariyya said, jogging to the car to check if what Carmilla said was valid.
"If this is true, I'm killing him and the kids myself," Atlas uttered. "Atlas, you can't threaten to kill kids!" Carmilla exclaimed. "A threat and a promise are two different things." Atlas rebuked.
Zakariyya, meanwhile, opened the door, and counted the bags, along with what was in them. Weapons, food, drinks, utilities, games, it was all there. "Ya 'Iillahi..." Zakariyya closed the door and walked around the car.
"Guys, she was right. I wouldn't say half of our stuff is in there, but it's a good proportion." Zakariyya explained. "Fuck." Ianessa gritted. "Well good enough for me. Serenity, light his ass up." Atlas signaled.
"No wait! It wasn't his fault, he just wanted to keep us safe and get us out of this mess!" Illumin spoke up. Magenta tried to keep him quiet, but he would not be deterred. "Be honest, if you all were in his shoes you would do the same." Illumin snapped at them.
"Maybe. But.. I'm not. So why should I care?" Serenity replied with an indifferent tone. "Well... he does have a point. He just wanted to keep his family safe." Carmilla attempted to lighten the situation. "I understand that part, but stealing our stuff and almost killing one, if not two of our closest friends isn't something he should get away with." Zakariyya shook her head.
"Honestly guys, if we're gonna kill him... shouldn't we use a silencer? Don't wanna attract zombies." Atlas pointed out. "I don't think that's gonna matter dude," Zakariyya said while pointing from behind him, aiming at a moderate herd of zombies coming their way.
A terrifying silence befell upon the group. Only the sound of Snowball's incessant barking due to being locked in a room upstairs could be heard as they continued to stare in horror. Magenta sucked his teeth; "Man this some 'ol bullsh-"
