Classes seemed to drag and the moment the day was over, teachers and students alike, rushed out of the building eager to get on with their evening plans. Shar strolled out to her car. She walked alone, Esme and Taylor had some Twilight club or something to attend, so she was on her own. The fresh air felt good on her face so she took her time. She pushed back the nagging feeling that the note from that morning caused. The red Jeep glistened in the fading light. Fall was in full swing and the sun hid itself more and more each day.
Her breath hitched in her throat. A figure stood out against the glistening paint, and she knew who it was, and that she couldn't avoid it. The meeting was going to happen either way, the figure leaned on the driver's side door. There was no escape.
A long deep purple trench coat draped the figure but once you were in range one would notice every curve this woman had. She was as tall as the Jeep and as thin as a light pole, her stretched pale bluish-purple skin looked almost white against the rich fabric of her clothes. For as strange as she looked, everything was in proportion. Her silver hair wrapped around two nub horns, that seemed to have been filed down. The silver color seemed to pick up every fading fall color around it, making it look as if her head was on fire and the flames engulfed her spine. Her yellow eyes were the only brightness in her, as Shar strode closer, the girl's eyes narrowed as she watched.
Shar walked up to the figure with no sense of fear or hesitation. Her voice was soft and calm, "Hello Kat, I see you found me." She smiled as she looked the woman up and down checking for anything unusual. Kat was unarmed, which in itself was unusual. The silence was unbearable. "Tag, I'm it now I guess." Kat's mask of grim solemnness faded with those words, it was almost a smile.
"Of course I found you. Although it would have been a lot easier if you were home once in a while." She grinned at this, letting her sharp teeth glisten in the fall light. Shar shifted from one foot to another before her body stiffened.
With all the confidence in the world and a bit of cockiness, she simply stated, "Sorry," she shrugged, "the solitaire life bores me from time to time." She stretched, flexing her shoulders and fairing her wings. A brisk wind stirred and danced leaves around the girls. Chills raced down both their spines.
"Oh my good girl," The silver-haired woman purred at the younger female. "You know I can fix that little problem." She took a step closer leaving just inches between them. Her voice was a temptation and her eyes sparkled like the setting sun. Her hand reached out to pet the dark locks that draped in front of Shar's eyes.
Shar took a step back before the temptress worked her magic. "Alright," her voice drew out the word suspicion creeping into her voice, "why are you really here Kat? You NEVER come around just to visit me." She stared the demoness down, her eyes trying to shake her to her core.
Kat let out a huff, her eyes narrowed into a sneer as she placed her hand firmly on her hip. Her voice quickly took on a business tone as she took her weight off the car. "Boss has a job for us this weekend." Her voice trailed off after that making any mutterings as incoherent as a newborn's gibberish.
Shar's jaw almost hit the pavement as she heard those words. "This weekend?" When Kat just nodded, her breath raced out as she sighed. "But it's All Hallows Eve." Her voice had a trace of a whine in it, reminding Kat how young the girl really was.
"Yes I'm well aware it is, but you will understand." Kat calmly handed over a large manila envelope. "He found what he was looking for." She smiled as she turned around walking around the front to the passenger side of the car.
Shar watched the death-tinted-skinned woman pass to the other side of her car. "Oh fine." She shrugged as she opened her door. "I guess I could use the extra cash." She stated to no one as she pulled herself into the car. She didn't buckle up or even turn the car on, she just sat there, twisting the envelope in her hands. Her delicate fingers pulled the information out, reading it quickly, half skimming. She jumped as the passenger door slammed closed. She glanced up to see Kat sitting there. "And what do you think you're doing here?" She demanded.
Kat looked up, her sharp teeth showed in a grin. "Spending the night." Her eyes flickered red. "Oh don't worry, I won't bite too hard." she winked.
Shar put the Jeep into drive and headed home with Kat next to her. Her long thin fingers twisting and toying with Shar's jet black hair. By the time Shar pulled into the driveway the demoness hand was already almost into her lap. Meanwhile, Shar's knuckles were white from gripping the wheel so hard. The poison rushed through her body, followed by a wave of heat. This time, she embraced the sensation of love. No matter how harsh and painful it was. Deep down she knew she missed Kat's rough touch.
With her mind hazed, she had no intent of losing her high of this feeling. Her phone soon lit up. She picked it up and looked at it. Tapping the screen she read, "Come pick me up?" She quickly opened the keyboard and typed a reply "Sorry, I'm busy. Next time." There was no further conversation as far as she was concerned. There was nothing else existing as far as she knew, all that mattered was her addiction, her high of whatever toxin this woman pumped into her.
Kat's pale purple fingers ran all over Shar's pale skin. There was a hunger in her eyes and not even clothes would stop her. Anger flared quickly and she tugged at fabric pulling it off however she could. As soon as her black claw-like nails scrapped the smooth skin under Shar's belly button, Shar's mind snapped. Shar's own rage boiled in her blood as she threw the demon back and away from her.
The moment Kat was away Shar noticed that her mind started to clear once the warm hell-touch was gone. "Couch...now." She commanded as she pointed toward the living room. Razor sharp teeth grinned as the woman bowed slightly backing out of the room.
Kat muttered to herself as she flopped down on the couch. "My good girl will come around." She pulled a blanket from the back of the couch over her slender frame.
Shar woke up with her head pounding. The bright morning light signaled she would be late for classes. And unfortunately, Kat was still out on her couch. She shrugged and picked up her phone to see six messages.
1. I'm home. ~Esme
2. Well I guess your busy. I love you. Sleep tight. ~Esme
3. I can't sleep, I miss you. ~Esme
4. Pick me up in the morn? ~Esme
5. Never mind... ~Esme
6. You ok? ~Taylor
I'll get to them all later, Shar thought as she read over the messages. She got up and walked into the living room to see Kat up and watching T.V. She stumbled around with her brain in a fog for a good hour before she finally decided to just stay home. She called herself off of her classes, then sent out a message to the two she knew would be worried.
Starting my weekend early. ~Shar
Shar didn't get a response. She figured they were in class or mad at her. Shrugging her shoulders and plopping herself next to the demon girl, who promptly shoved her legs into Shar's lap.
Shar asked, "So what's our plan for this one?" Her hand rose to rub the groggy feeling away but when it relieved nothing, she surrendered.
Kat sipped on some amber-colored liquid, Shar guessed it was rum. The words formed slowly as if she really needed to think about it between sips. "Well, my main plan was to just go and kick some ass." She paused another moment. "But I was warned he might not have the item on him. We have to verify that first." She sighed softly as she downed the rest of her drink. Standing up quickly she glanced at the pale-skinned girl. Her voice returned to its normal tempting self. "Sense you've been such a good girl lately why not go out to the bar with me before work?" Her eyes held Shar's bright blue eyes.
The offer was tempting, The Devil's Tavern was a great place to find other demons and the drinks were strong for the price. Shar hadn't been there since she first crossed back over. That seemed like forever ago. With everything that was going on, a stiff drink might just help. Her fingers twisted in her dark hair. "You know what, sure. Let's go." Her face lit up with a smile and for once Kat's hard expression softened.
Kat's hand reached over and ruffled Shar's hair. "Go back to sleep. You might need that energy." The demoness licked her lips.
Shar yawned with a morning haze still in her eyes. She nodded softly and shuffled her way back to her soft warm bed.
Kat stretched out on the couch and pulled her blanket back over herself and quickly fell asleep. It was about to be a long night.
