Pre-Chapter 1: The Writers

Basically what's happening is that I'm doing some universe and world building. So it all kind of makes sense! If there is any plot holes or anything! Please comment your questions and I will answer them then fix them! Kind of a ramble sorry!

Chapter:
One person. That's all. One person each generation gets it. The power. The power to see beyond. Visions as you may call it. The writers make sure of that. Sometimes the person isn't built for it, which always ends so tragically. The writer chosen to choose the next one has a huge responsibility to pick a person who has the potential to have a strong will and mind. Gwen Blake. She was this years choice. The writer who chose her: Maisy (Mais) Jo.
About writers. They are dead. Dead people who who lived very fulfilling lives or people who wanted to try to help the world. They have to want to be writers or else nothing would work. They have to only want the best for people or else the whole thing collapses. In the event that someone is 'corrupt' they are immediately taken away and the backup is on the clock 24/7 until they can find a replacement. Writers work in pairs of two since they need breaks. It's a very strenuous job, looking out for people. They constantly monitor the two people they are assigned to.

To make it easier on them the two people are usually destined to be married, best friends or are siblings. As a result of this, their lives become connected in a way. When someones 'other half' or partner dies, they feel a deep, gut wrenching pit of loss in their chest that
only tends to get better with therapy and time. However as a result, their love tends to be so much stronger. Whether it's in a loving friendship way or if it's in a romantic way. Even if they don't get along very well at first they are chosen so that most of the time they start to really like each other and become each other's best friends. Sometimes though, it doesn't always work out, which is never anticipated. It is incredibly hard on the writers because they have to go separate ways and start working alone. But it rarely happens, probably like once every few thousand years, so it's not a concern in everyone's eyes yet.

When the people die they get evaluated on how their life went. If they were a good person with some struggles, they'll go somewhere different than someone who was a serial killer, who has no remorse. If someone is in a good place with themselves and has even a slight desire to become a writer they are given a chance and a choice to get signed up for a year of a writer apprenticeship which they can decide to quit and leave at any time if its not for them. Of course if later they want to start an apprenticeship and try to be a writer again they can. Although it's more of a thing they have to apply and get chosen for. When they decide if that is what they would like to do, they are set up with a new human with another person, and a writer with more experience, to a shadow.
Once someone gets to this point, there's no going back. They are stuck for the rest of the person's life. After the second shadow section is done they have a 3 month mandatory break because since they are with that person from birth to death, they tend to get quite attached to the human they are watching. They are always allowed more grieving time if they require it. After their break they have another choice. To either take up watching a new person, or quit being a writer and go find a different isle and section that better suits them. If they decide to start again they are going to do the exact same as last time, except without someone to shadow. And, along with one other writer, are watching the duo that they are assigned.

With the help of the other writer, they can keep track of both of the humans present and possible future by looking at the way they are acting or in some cases very vague thinking. They can only track their people though. Any action that someone else is doing can only be noticed by the writers is if that action happens within the sight or right around either person. So for example if someone else liked their person, they would only know if they noticed signs or if the person confessed. The writers are allowed to talk to each other (besides their partner) only when the humans are sleeping. So if a writer sees their charge tries to plan a murder or stalking someone they could talk to the other person's writers. They could pass on very strong feelings to the person that they are watching. Like a strong feeling of dread and the feeling of being watched. Or the sudden gut feeling to turn a different way to avoid something or go towards something instead.
If a writer has a favor that they can cash in still, they could directly influence their humans life, such as talking to them. 'Favors can be gained in many different ways. Such as if someone dies violently, if they hit certain milestones (100 people looked after, decideing to be a writer the first time, etc) or if they rise in rank. This favor can be cashed in whenever for a decent amount of things. It depends on the situation really. For example someone cashed in their favor to make a notepad that never runs out and any groceries that he put on there just appear on his counter because that was the one complaint he had about his life.

Most people have a magical portal that they can go anywhere. Writers use it so that they can leave to hangout with friends, eat, sleep or do anything they would like whenever the person that they are watching sleeps. They have a bracelet that alerts them that their person is awake so they can hop in the portal immediately. The portal analyzes their mood and gives them food, a beverage and an outfit to match their personality. There is also no rules on dress code so people can wear whatever they want and can decorate both their houses and cubes however they would like. Their portal can also be 100% customized. It can be any color, is attuned to your outfit style and aesthetic. It can also make you smell like what you would smell like as a fragrance and can be wired to go anywhere. This is to let them go hiking, get specific groceries, meet friends, go shopping, etc.

However, there have been a few occasions where the writers and the Before Beings have been able to connect the human world. This is how magical things have traveled to earth such as giraffes, the black phone dinosaurs and mosquitoes ended up on earth. The dinosaurs were able to recaptured after a few million years and the incident covered up with the asteroid. The Before Beings are creatures that shaped the afterlife, created portals, created people and who created the systems. They were (unfortunately) not able to recapture the mosquitoes. Those were created for the pedophiles.

There are many different 'levels'. The writers isle, the irredeemable isles, the rehab isle and the everything else isle. The writers isle: where all the writers work. The 'irredeemable' isles: where the people who are the worst of the worst people. People who could never regret and see the errors of their ways (mass murder, animal abusers, etc) there are of course ways to get off these isles. (even the irredeemable isles.) Through lots of therapy and truth sessions, it's very hard but not impossible. The rehab isle: for people who aren't ready yet. Maybe they have some past issues they need to work through such as trauma. Or for people who did bad actions but are just broken. If you did mostly good actions it's very easy to leave this isle when you are ready, however for the broken people is quite hard. You would have to prove yourself to be remorseful, you have to talk to all the people you intentionally harmed and apologize, you would have to go to a ton of therapy to heal. The everything isle: where everyone else lives. There are different blocks dedicated to a certain thing. For example readers avenue is a very cozy place filled with bookstores and libraries, the gamers section has a city like feel with lots of cosplay conventions and game stores, the Creative Corridor has everything a creative person could need. Lots of art stores, farmers markets, community parks with walls to paint on. People can move wherever whenever. But they have to contact the building crew so they could stretch the sector and build you your place. Money isn't a thing. Everyone has everything they could need, but people tend to trade. For example a crocheted scarf for a tattoo or a custom controller for friendship. People can do whatever they want and it works because there aren't any people who wish anyone else harm because everyone is confident and has worked on themselves. However help is only one portal away so anyone who needs can go get some quality therapy from kind, volunteer psychologists.
