Yan Chi was carried back to the room by Fang Jun.
"The candle in the room was almost burned out, and the wax had piled up into a small hill at the bottom of the plate. The candlelight was much dimmer than when Fang Jun had first arrived, creating a subdued ambiance between the two of them."
The confusion and uneasiness of the previous days seemed to disappear with the kiss in the pavilion. Fang Jun lowered his head, his eyes full of tenderness.
Yan Chi went out for a while and got cold, even his palms were cold.
No one knew where Song Jinshu had taken Mu Ru to play, and they had not been seen for a long time. Fang Jun was worried that Yan Chi had caught a cold, so he asked him to ask someone to bring in hot water.
"It's very humid at night, and you'll be cold if you go out. Ask the maids to boil some hot water." Fang Jun tied his hair into a bun and fixed it behind his head, revealing his slender, long, and pale neck.
As the back of the neck is not often exposed to the wind, when the hair was lifted, Yan Chi shrank his neck and his ears turned red.
The maids moved quickly and arrived a quarter of an hour later with a bathtub full of hot water. Without looking away, they also prepared a bath towel and robe for Yan Chi to use after bathing. They replaced the candle that was about to go out and lit the fire in the room a little brighter.
When Yan Chi had a miscarriage, the fetus was already more than five months old. The baby had grown quickly and it was obvious that he had been pregnant. When the fetus was aborted, it was up to Yan Chi to induce labor and deliver the deceased fetus. He was already weak and after all the tossing and turning, he injured his legs. Although walking was not a problem, he was not as comfortable as before.
Therefore, after Yan Chi returned to the Yan Mansion, someone had to watch over him every time he took a bath.
Now, Fang Jun was present, and no maid dared to remain in the inner chamber. They positioned a screen and quickly departed.
"Just now, I saw the eldest master's ears were red with embarrassment," the maid said to the sisters around her as she walked out with an empty basin. "Governor Fang is really good to the eldest master, much better than that previous Mr. Shen."
"That's correct. When our oldest master first returned, half of the maids in the mansion cried due to heartache."
Yan Chi is very popular in the Yan Mansion. He takes good care of the maids on weekdays. The maids and servants in the mansion respect and love him.
The night wind blew, dispersing the maids' conversation. Fang Jun's shadow on the window paper was blown sideways, as if he was bending down to kiss Yan Chi's head.
The water in the tub was very hot, and the steam slowly rose and hovered above. Yan Chi slowly untied his belt and took off his clothes. He bit his lip nervously. This was the first time he had taken off his clothes in front of Fang Jun, even though there was a screen behind him.
Little did they know that behind the screen, Fang Jun was feeling jealous.
The screen could only block Yan Chi's face, but could not block his movements or his figure.
"When he bent down to take off his inner garments, his shoulder blades protruded outward, resembling the hazy mountains in the distance. As he straightened up again, the mountains disappeared, and he undulated downward, his long and straight legs resembling a vertical waterfall, with every joint visible."
The sound of water gradually came from behind the screen, and water vapor stained the surface of the screen. Everything behind it was unclear, but it added a bit of mystery.
Fang Jun fixed his gaze on Yan Chi's every move from behind the screen with keen attention. Initially, he intended to watch over Yan Chi to prevent any mishaps, but now Yan Chi's every action was adding to his anxiety and stirring his desires. Despite his efforts to look away, the sound of flowing water became more pronounced as his eyes lost sight of Yan Chi.
He could even anticipate Yan Chi's movements by listening to the flow of water, feeling like a kitten's claws scratching his heart.
"...Fang...Fang Jun?"
Someone scratched his heart hard. Fang Jun turned his head quickly and saw Yan Chi, half covered with his outer robe, bending over. Yan Chi was holding the wall of the bathtub with one hand and catching the fallen hem of his robe in his arm with the other hand. The roots of his white thighs flashed by.
Fang Jun remained silent for an extended period, his Adam's apple trembling and his eyes as deep as the ocean.
"Can you carry me out?"
Yan Chi felt a little embarrassed to admit it. He had been sitting in the bathtub for quite a while, and his legs felt weak when he tried to stand up. He didn't even have the strength to lift his legs to step out of the bathtub.
Yan Chi didn't know how tempting it was to say this. Fang Jun clenched his hands at his sides into fists, his nails digging deep into his palms, leaving a row of light crescent marks.
He seemed a bit unsteady on his feet, and the heat caused his eyes to turn red, giving the impression that he had been crying behind Fang Jun's back.
Fang Jun approached him, desiring to make Yan Chi cry beneath him, yet his actions were remarkably gentle.
Yan Chi was much lighter than he was a few days ago, so he easily lifted him. The sweet fragrance of the sweet-scented osmanthus soap lingered, and when Fang Jun lowered his head, the sweet smell hit him in the face.
Yan Chi let go, and the hem of his clothes fell lightly behind him, blocking the scenery behind him.
The room's temperature rose significantly. Even if he didn't wear an outer robe and only wore inner clothes, he wouldn't feel cold. Fang Jun put Yan Chi on the bed. The hairpin behind his head was accidentally knocked off, and his long, black, crow-feather-like hair instantly scattered.
This wasn't their first hug, but both seemed equally shy.
Yan Chi tightly grasped the quilt beneath him, his knuckles turning white from the force. He didn't even dare to look at Fang Jun. His butterfly-like eyelashes fluttered constantly, and the places touched by Fang Jun felt as hot as if they were burned by fire.
"I'll take the water out and pour it away," Fang Jun said as he resisted the urge to pinch Yan Chi's earlobe and turned around quickly.
Yan Chi, feeling uncomfortable, simply nodded at whatever Fang Jun said, even though servants typically performed these tasks.
He was the only one left in the room. The cold wind was howling. Yan Chi turned over and wrapped himself in the quilt, hoping that the warmth from Fang Jun would remain on his body for a little longer.
He covered his face with his hands and took a deep breath. All the pores on his body relaxed, and his round toes curled up under the quilt.
Soon the door opened again. Yan Chi lay with his back to the door without moving. He wanted to see what Fang Jun was going to do next, but then he heard Mu Ru's voice instead.
"Is Brother Yan asleep?" She asked the people around her in a low voice.
Yan Chi was asleep in the inner room, only visible through the window lying on the bed. Mu Ru, an unmarried girl, felt too embarrassed to enter the inner room without the company and permission of Yan Chi's family.
Fang Jun was holding a meal in his hand and replied to her in a low voice, which sounded very gentle in the night, "I will go inside and have a look. Please try to keep the noise down outside."
Yan Chi's heart sank. He was so proud of himself that he forgot about Mu Ru, who had come with him tonight.
When Fang Jun pushed open the door and walked in, Yan Chi, who was about to get up, stopped all his movements and closed his eyes to pretend to be asleep. He could feel Fang Jun bending down to tuck in the quilt for him, and his hot and humid breath sprayed on his face. Fang Jun reached out and touched his forehead with the back of his hand and, after confirming that the temperature was normal, he carefully withdrew.
"Let's go. I'll take you back to the palace."
