I'D WATCHED QUALIFYING with a fast beating heart. Obviously I'd been rooting for my brother, but as Lando's times got better i wanted him to place well. Underneath Oscar, but well. Maybe then he'd stop being a jerk.

Both McLaren drivers had made it through Q1 and Q2 which was expected, but Q3 was what really mattered. This is where they'd give it their all to place in the top for the start of tomorrow's race.

I bit my lip anxiously as I watched Oscar move through the track, he'd had a bad first sector but a record second and third, placing him in P3. While Lando, who'd had the fastest lap, found himself in P2.

The team clapped as qualifying concluded, very happy with the results. The car had seemed promising and with Lando in P2 and Oscar in P3 a podium for both drivers seemed possible.

I'd left with the rest of the team to go congratulate Oscar. We stood by the sidelines, cheering and clapping as both drivers approached. Engineers patted them on the backs and pulled them in for congratulating hugs.

I was the first to be greeted by Oscar as he ran to me, helmet still on but visor up. He squeezed me tightly and I could practically feel the joy radiating of him and onto me like it was contagious.

"Congrats, Osc. I love you."

He gave me a kiss on the cheek. "Thanks El, love you too." His smile was gleaming as he went around to the rest of the team. I watched in glee.

Then Lando came to spoil all the fun, a look in his eyes that was hard to decipher as per usual. He came close to where I stood, leaning over to whisper something in my ear after taking his helmet and balaclava off. I only froze in shock, unsure what to expect.

"You're good at standing around and smiling. Maybe stick to that."

I hated the way his hot breath on my skin left me frozen in place, the way his words had an effect on me. I was finding it hard to find the line that distinguished being rude to push me away or being rude because he meant it. The line was inevitably blurring and it left me enraged.

I watched him walk off, exchanging a hug with Oscar like he hadn't just been an ass to his sister. The crowds were cheering, music was playing, the team was roaring in happiness yet the only thing I could hear was him. His words that always had a way of twisting into me like a sharpened knife. No fuck a knife, a goddamn machete. I was done with it.

Most of the team stayed by the sidelines as the drivers were interviewed, though I'd managed to climb over and stand next to Oscar. First was Max Verstappen, the redbull driver who'd found himself in P1, and then Lando and Oscar.

I congratulated Oscar further as Lando was being interviewed just a few feet away, incredibly proud of what he'd been accomplishing in formula one so far. Even as I talked to my brother however, part of me was still following the interview.

The interviewer, a young blonde woman, congratulated Lando with a smile as he approached her with the microphone linked to speakers so the entire crowd could hear even from the grandstands.

"Lando, how do you feel about today's qualifying session?," she probed.

His face was displayed on the big screen as he answered with a grin. "Really good. There are always areas to improve, but im glad to see the car improving it's really helping my confidence on the track. It's great to have the support of the team, even when they're more interested in others."

I looked away from Oscar in confusion only to find Lando staring past the interviewer and directly at me. As if reminding me I was there to support him not my brother. I quickly turned away, unsure what that meant as the interview continued.
