It was nice outside. The gentle breeze, the sounds of borbo's rolling through the grass (why do they not have legs?), and the wonderfu-
"Joshua, if you don't come down this instant I swear!"
"Y-Yes, Mom!"
Well, it was nice while it lasted.
Stumbling out of bed, Josh hurriedly went downstairs into the kitchen to avoid his mother's wrath.
"You overslept, didn't you? And on your special day too nonetheless!"
It was always like this, Josh thought. A "special" day to him wasn't possible. He was bland and boring with his short black hair and equally as boring black eyes. The fact that he was also the shortest in the family (5'3ft) didn't help his case as well.
Josh was getting sidetracked at this point, thinking for too long (and too hard) always ended up with his mind becoming one giant mess. He could be thinking about what breakfast would be and the next moment he'd start humming the tune of that one gum commercial he saw 3 years ago.
Lost in deep thought, Josh was suddenly dragged back to reality via a bonk on the head with a ladle.
"Sit down and eat your breakfast" His mom said, holding said ladle as a subtle reminder that she should not be trifled with.
Josh sits down and eats his breakfast, I don't blame him; ladles hurt, especially to the head.
"A special day" Josh thought. It was ridiculous in concept, something good happening to me, specifically?? As if.
Josh finishes his breakfast, takes a quick shower, dresses (somewhat) nicely, and says goodbye to his parents before leaving the house to go to the Doodle Laboratory.
The Doodle Laboratory was a place where one can get their starter doodle. Josh, when he was still young, always dreamed of becoming one of the best tamers on The Island. Everyone knowing and shouting his name in admiration, the feeling of being popular always made him feel excited. But that excitement turned into shame and resentment as he got older. He found it embarrassing, why did kid Josh think of such far fetched aspirations??
Deep in thought (yet again), Josh notices a blond haired boy wearing a blue vest storm out of the Doodles Laboratory with a older man in a suit following him from behind.
"Huh." Josh says out loud, wondering what could've happened that made him leave like that.
Josh dismisses the thought, he should mind his own business, worrying about other people and making wild speculations about them is useless.
Shrugging off what he just saw, Josh goes near the Doodle Laboratory. As he opens the door and walks inside, he passes by another boy.
Josh froze.
It's as if time itself slowed down. Josh didn't know why or how but something about this boy seemed... Odd.
His attitude, the way he walked with his head high, and a smile plastered on his face for the whole world to see.
Josh didn't like him, but at the same time he wished he was like him. Josh wanted to walk like he knew how to walk. Josh wanted to raise his head high and mighty as if to show the world itself that he's ready for anything.
Josh couldn't do that, he couldn't do anything that guy could.
And he despised him for it.
It's safe to say that Josh wasn't the best person in the world. His sense of inferiority and uselessness ultimately made him feel bitter and resentful to those "better" than him.
