The next day was like the last, except John was making dinner now. Henry sat outside on the porch, watching the children collect stones and play in the front yard.
Meanwhile, in the kitchen, Alex came up behind John, pressing his chest to the blond's back and gently resting his hands on the man's hips. He began to sway them, pressing small kisses to the older man's neck and nuzzling his nose there.
John felt the stress of the day melt away as Alex pressed against him, the man beginning to relax. He leaned back against the younger man's chest, laying his head back slightly onto Alex's and sighing contently. A small smile tugged at his lips as he was swaying with the redhead, "You always know just how to distract me," he mumbled.
A chuckle left the younger man, knowing he had the talent to calm John down when he was stressed, mad, or nervous. It was a talent that the redhead loved, especially when it ended with seeing his lover smile, "Of course, my love," he teased, pressing a few more kisses to the blond's neck.
The older man rolled his eyes, softly humming as he felt the nuzzles and kisses continue. After a few minutes of such affection, John sighed and playfully pushed the other man away, "Alright, that's enough distraction. Go annoy the children instead," he tried acting stern, but his smile didn't help.
The redhead huffed as he was gently pushed, but his smile came back as he pressed himself back onto the blond's back, grabbing his hips a bit firmer so he hopefully couldn't be pushed again. "But I'm busy annoying you," he retorted, pressing his lips to the blond's neck once more and keeping them there for a few seconds. "Besides, they're fine and your father is watching them."
John tried to suppress a shiver as Alex kissed his neck, his touches making it harder to focus on dinner. He gently pushed the younger man away again, his frustration growing a little, "Alex, I'm serious. I need to focus on making dinner," he said, his voice a bit firmer.
The blond's irritation was clear to Alex straight away, causing the redhead to furrow his eyebrows. His body immediately acted with instinct, needing to cheer his lover up. He thought if he were to just keep being playful, it might help, so he pinched the older man's sides and kissed his cheek, then wrapped his arms around him and picked him up.
"Well, you should be focused on loving me, not making dinner," he teased.
Despite his irritation, the blond couldn't help but giggle at the pinch followed by the kiss, then a gasp left him as he was lifted. He knew the redhead was only trying to cheer him up, which he loved, but he needed to focus on dinner.
"Alex, put me down!" The older man protested as he squirmed in the other's arms, "I'm trying to make dinner and you're not helping. Now, will you please go play with the kids or do something that doesn't bother me?"
Alex winced, putting the older man down as he felt the tense, cold air between them. The redhead was serious for once, which really only ever happened when the blond rejected him.
The younger man walked to the side of him, leaning his side on the counter while keeping his hand on the small of John's back, "What's wrong?" He asked quietly.
The blond felt a bit guilty as Alex's demeanor changed, not meaning to snap at him when he was only being sweet. He paused his cooking for a second, turning to the younger man with a sigh, "I'm just stressed, I always am with my father. Every meal needs to be perfect for him and it's been like that since I was a kid," he confesses, "I just hate screwing up and disappointing him."
Alex let out a small huff, feeling a bit sorry for distracting John from something important. "I'm sorry, love," he mumbled, "I'll be outside with the children if that's what you wish." He turned and began walking out of the kitchen, rubbing his forehead in guilt.
