Super Rich Kids"Did you hear one of the ducks made varsity?" That was the first thing Rick Riley said to his younger sister on the drive to school the next morning. It was the first thing he's said to her since yesterday, actually.
"Oh, really?" Danika hummed.
"Who?"
"Adam Banks." Rick responded. "I bet you know him too." He continued in a snarky tone.
"Yeah, I do, actually." Danika sassed, rolling her eyes at her brother's none-sense.
Rick mimicked her; rolling his eyes and clenching his jaw, continuing there drive to school in silence.
The two teenagers pulled up to Eden Hall, and Danika made her way to her first period class, which just so happened to be the class she shared with the new duck-turned-warrior.
"Hey Dani." Adam greeted her, smiling in her direction. Though his smile didn't quite meet his eyes.
"Hey Adam, congrats on making Varsity, by the way!" Danika smiled at the boy, sitting down beside him.
"Thanks." Adam replied, his smile falling.
"Why don't you seem too happy about it?" Danika furrowed her brows at the blonde boy in front of her.
"I've been a duck for 4 years, Dani." Adam sighed.
"Well, change can be good for a person." She tried to sound positive.
"You don't get it, Danika." He groaned, throwing his head back.
"I'm sorry, is it my brother and his teammates? I know they can be a little bit harsh at times." She spoke softly.
"It's everything! The ducks won't talk to me, your brothers are making me sit with the team at every event, including lunch, for crying out loud!" The boy rambled on, hiding his face in his hands.
"If it makes you feel any better, I sit there too, Banksie." She grinned, touching his shoulder gently.
"I guess that helps." Adam shrugged.
The two struggled through math problems with each with each other, and the end of class neared.Adam turned to her with a pointed look, raising a brow before his next sentence.
"Oh yeah, I almost forgot to ask, what's up with you and Germaine?" Adam quipped.
"Who?" She asked, dumbfounded.
"Germaine?" Adam repeated, staring at the girl.
"Oh, you mean Guy!" Dani grinned.
"Yeah.. So what's going on?" Adam interrupted the girl.
"Nothing's going on, what do you mean?" She furrowed her brows, playing with her necklace.
"Well, Connie wasn't too happy with your interaction at the hockey rink last night." Adam smirked.
"Who the hell is Connie?" Danika seemed very lost as she asked this question.
"Guys Girlfriend..." Adam trailed off. "Wait! Guy never told you about Connie?" Adam continued with his last sentence.
"No? I had no clue he even had a girlfriend." Dani sighed. It was partially true, she had heard Guy call the girl his 'girlfriend' last night, but she hadn't believed it at the time.
"Oh shit." Adam said, leaning back in his chair. The two didn't say anything else until the end of class, exchanging goodbyes and going their separate ways.
Danika was at her locker between her first and second period when she felt a presence beside her.
There, behind her locker door, stood her two elder brothers, Rick and Andrew Riley. The two grinned at her like idiots.
"Oh, look, it's dumb and dumber." She joked, grinning at the two Riley's.
"Hello, dearest little sister." Andrew grinned back, ruffling up her hair.
"Andrew." Dani groaned, opening her locked door back up to check herself in the mirror.
"What do you two dickwads want anyway?" She sighed, closing her locker for a second time.
"We just thought it would be a good idea to walk our favourite sister to class." Rick grinned this time, wrapping his arm around the smaller girl in more of a headlock than anything.
"Why would you want to do that?" Danika retaliated, shoving Rick's arm off of him and walking between the two boys.
"Well, we don't want our little sister to be domesticated with a duck." Andrew giggled to himself at that one.
"Okay, first of all, gross. Second, I don't need you guys glued to my side. You're scaring away the hoes." Dani sighed.
"Well, you don't need any hoes." Scooter jumped into the conversation, starting to walk with the three Riley's.
"Oh! It looks like we're at my science class." Dani quipped with a fake smile.
"Maybe we should walk you to the door." Rick suggested.
"Maybe you shouldn't." Danika laughed, turning around to walk into the class. But she turned around, and the three boys were still there.
"You can go now..." And with that, she made her way into the class, sitting beside Guys empty chair, opting to start a conversation with Kenny instead.
"Guy. You're late." The teacher snapped at the blonde boy as he rushed to his seat.
"Sorry." He mumbled quietly, turning to the two people on either side of him as he bid his hellos.
"How was your guys practice last night?" Dani inquired, braiding a small section of her hair for fun.
"Awful." Kenny whined.
"Terrible." Guy groaned at the same time, laying his head on the table.
"Well, I heard Banks made varsity." She quipped.
"Of course he did." Guy replied snarky.
"Hey Adams, a nice guy." Danika defended her friend.
"Before he became a traitor."
"He hasn't done anything to you." Dani scoffed, turning her head to write in her notebook.
Later that day, Danika was sitting down at the varsity lunch table beside Scooter, and she saw her eldest brother and Adam walking over.
"Adam, you can sit beside me." Dani offered, moving her bag out of the space before her.
Adam smiled at her gratefully, taking a seat.
There's only a select number of boys on the team that Rick let sit beside his baby sister, and Dani prayed he'd add Adam to the list. Even if he didn't, she'd still sit with him.
"So, Adam, how do you know my little sister?" Rick Hummed, pretending not to be interested.
"Oh, we have math together." Adam piped up quietly, picking at his food.
"Hm."
Danika could sense a pair of eyes on her, and to her surprise, she turned around to see the whole JV team staring in her and Adam's direction. Well, the team was staring at Adam, and Guy was staring at Dani.
Danika sent the blonde a tight-lipped smile and turned to face Adam.
"Your ex-hockey team is staring." The brunette whispered.
Adam just shrugged.
"Let them."
Danika looked over and saw Charlie and two other boys from the Ducks hockey team walking over.
Cole took his lunch.
"Oh, come on, my mommy made me brownies." Charlie whined; it sounded fake, though.
"Yeah." Another one piped up.
"Fresh, warm ones." The third one called out.
"Hey, it's too bad about your bash brother. Heard he was too scared to leave home." Cole sassed."Cole." Danika scolded, slapping the back of his head.
"Portman ain't scared of nothin'."
"What the hell kind of brownies are these?" Cole groaned, opening up the bag and grabbing the 'brownies.'
I gotta tell her." Charlie started saying: "to stop using the horse turds in the recipe." He laughed, hitting Cole on the chest.
"Get 'em!" Rick shouted, and the whole varsity table started chasing after the boys, the horse brownies getting thrown around the cafeteria.
