It was the deadliest prom night since Carrie's. Riverdale High had been overrun by the Black Hood, my girlfriend's dad. And the Gargoyle King, true identity yet to be determined. We needed answers starting with... *** "Forget it, Hiram. I will not endorse or support this." Mom tells daddy as me and Veronica listen in.
"We have drugs on our streets. Gangs at every corner. Riverdale is broken, about to slide off a cliff, and the only way to save it is to privatize it." Daddy tells her.
"And by privatize, you mean you want to buy the town of Riverdale?" Mom asks.
"I'd like to put in a bid to relieve our town of its debts and assume its leadership. So, yes. I plan to buy Riverdale with or without your support. And Governor Dooley has already signed off on the strategy. So...my advice? Clear out your office." Daddy tells her and then slams the door closed behind him. *** "The deed, the contract we signed, none of it matters. It was all fake. Our dad still owns Pops and the speakeasy and we're a fool for ever trusting him. And on top of everything he's done to us, he's now planning on buying the entire town." Veronica tells us as we stand besides Archie and Mrs. Andrews inside their house.
"Yeah, Ronnie, your guy's dad sucks." Archie tells her.
"Wait. What about everything shady that goes down at the speakeasy? If it's daddy's name on the deed, can't he be prosecuted for it?" I ask.
"Shady stuff as in..." Mary trails off.
"Drinking without carding, and/or illegal gambling, let's say?" Veronica asks.
"Hiram did these things?" Mary asks.
"Well, no, not exactly. But if the property were under his name, doesn't that make him liable?" I ask.
"I think I might know someone who might be able to help." Mary tells us. *** "Ardelia and I went to Sarah Florence together. Now she's my friend at the FBI." Mary tells us as we all sit at a table in La Bonne Nuit.
"The FBI has had their eye on Hiram Lodge for a long time. He served less than a year for embezzlement. So, whatever we can charge him with in the future, it's gotta be gang busters." Ardelia tells us.
"How about serving alcohol to minors and operating an illegal casino? And doctoring books." Veronica tells her.
"Aren't those crimes you and your sister committed?" Ardelia asks.
"My clients can neither confirm nor deny that statement." Mary tells her.
"Don't worry, we want your father, not you both." Ardelia tells me and Veronica.
"If none of this stuff will be enough to get Hiram arrested, then what will?" Archie asks.
"Catch him red-handed. We need to arrest Hiram committing a crime in real time." Ardelia tells us.
