a/n:

hi, first of all i just wanna start with saying that whether this is your first camren fanfic or not, i hope you thoroughly enjoy it.

in this story i've made Lauren and Camila the same age, because it just makes things easier for me to write according to the plot. they are both twenty-eight years old here.

next, this fanfic is inspired by the song "Where We Land" by Ed Sheeran, so you should definitely go listen to it first so you kinda get the "vibe" of this story.

thanks! i love you.

Lauren tapped her foot gently on the marble floor of the empty elevator, glancing up every few seconds to see what floor she was on. She was slightly irritated that she was headed to work at 8:30 in the morning, which was much earlier than usual for her. Not only that, but she had to come in so early just to meet with someone she didn't even like at all. To her, it was all a huge waste of her precious time.

Finally, after what felt like eternity for the impatient green-eyed woman, the elevator stopped. It made a soft ringing sound as it opened on the 31st floor. Lauren sighed and stepped out into the main entrance of BO$$ Records, the famous world-renowned record label she was currently CEO of. Lauren had come a long way since she'd graduated from university three years ago, where she had majored in music management. She never once had expected to come this far, her label signed with some of the current top artists in the world.

"Morning, Ms. Jauregui," Lauren's personal assistant, Kate, smiled at her warmly in greeting. "Just a reminder, you've got a meeting with Normani Kordei at nine."

Lauren nodded at her irritably, not wanting to be reminded of it, before heading off to her office. She was hoping to get a cup of coffee before Jamie, one of BO$$'s best artists, arrived to discuss an upcoming album.

"Oh, by the way, Normani's bringing along one of her newly hired songwriters!" Kate added, shouting after Lauren. She turned and gave her a thumbs up, displaying sarcastic excitement, then disappeared into her office to sulk.

About half an hour later, Lauren heard Kate knocking softly on the door before coming in, with Normani behind her and another person she assumed would be the songwriter Normani brought.

Lauren stood up to greet them once Kate left, and almost fell over when she got a proper look at the girl next to Normani. She couldn't believe her eyes. The girl seemed to have the same reaction when she saw Lauren.

"Hey, Lauren. So I came to show you some possible tracks to put on the new album. By the way, this is..." Normani was about to introduce her songwriter before she was cut off by Lauren.

"I know," Lauren smirked after recovering from her initial shock. "Long time no see, Cabello." Normani's eyes widened, looking from Lauren to Camila, then back again.

"Yes... Long time no see," Camila agreed, smirking at Lauren as well in the exact same way. It had been exactly ten years. The young woman stood in front of Lauren looked nothing like the fragile, baby-faced girl Lauren had grown up with. Camila was no longer just cute, she had become truly beautiful. Lauren couldn't believe this was the girl she used to take baths with in the kitchen sink, the girl she built a treehouse with, the girl she had sleepovers with every single weekend. Lauren was simply in awe.

"We definitely need to catch up some time Camila. This is such an amazing coincidence," Lauren tried her hardest to contain how happy she actually was, for the sake of looking professional.

Camila just nodded politely, but Lauren could already see the excitement in her eyes. Lauren was very good at reading her: No one knew Camila better than she did, having grown up beside the brown-eyed woman since they were two years old. Unfortunately they'd lost contact once they finished high school, and their friendship didn't exactly end on the greatest terms. Lauren was always a very well-organised person who worked hard and knew exactly what she wanted. So when she said she was going to study music management at Berklee, one of the best music colleges in America, everyone knew she meant it and would achieve it.

Camila, however, was a little different. She lived a very fast-paced life and could never settle in one place or make any final decisions. That was one of the main reasons that drove the two apart. Lauren had always hated Camila's reckless behaviour and how she acted like she didn't care about anything.

During last few days of summer before Lauren was to go off for college, they'd gotten into a huge fight because Camila was planning on skipping college entirely and just travelling the world. Lauren accused Camila of having "no ambitions" and the whole thing became very ugly. They stopped talking and then Lauren moved away for Berklee while Camila left for god knows where. They never spoke again after. Well, not until now.

"Okay, so, wanna start talking about my album now?" Normani said impatiently. Normani Kordei had always been a very cocky and slightly rude person, but her talent made up for it and still got her millions of fans around the globe. She was one of the faces of BO$$ and a very valuable member.

"Right, sorry," Lauren mumbled, still not taking her eyes off of Camila. Something about her was different, and Lauren couldn't deny that it intrigued her. "Tell me about what you've been planning."

"Well, I went through all those songs and demos I recorded from last year and narrowed it down from about a hundred to forty. Now I need your help to pick, like, six from that bunch, because I wanna write some new ones with Karla for the other half."

You mean get "Karla" to write all of the other half for you, Lauren thought to herself. Even though Normani was extremely important to her label, she still resented her.

Normani rambled on and on about everything she was planning for the album, and a few times Lauren had to stop herself from yawning in front of her. This was definitely not worth waking up early in the morning for. But in a way it was, because if this meeting hadn't happened she wouldn't have met Camila again. Even though the two ended with a fight, both of them knew they still cared about each other but were both just too proud to say sorry. That's what made then such a good pairing, no matter how different their aspirations were. They still had that same witty, intimidating nature.

Finally, after listening through all forty of Normani's top songs twice and taking another two hours to narrow them down to six, their meeting was over. Normani and Camila got up to leave, but Lauren quickly grabbed the songwriter's hand before she could go.
