FOR FOREVER. 2024
XI; TWO STEPS BEHIND"ALL I DID WAS GIVE AND GIVE TO YOU. THATS WHAT ALWAYS SET US APART. YOU'RE STILL THE NARROW-MINDED BOY I REMEMBER FROM THAT DAY."
now playing... baby came home 2 / valentines.
—THE BRISK MORNING AIR SWEPT ACROSS YOUR BODY as you set down a small bouquet of cecilia flowers onto the coarse dirt. you stared down at the two graves that stood next to each other, brushing off any extra greenery that had been climbing up them the past few years.
"good morning dad," you muttered. "good morning to you too, mr. crepus." a soft smile grazed your lips before setting themselves back to rest. "i'm sorry i couldn't be there for your burial, mr. crepus." though you did find it touching how his grave was set next to your fathers.
two years ago, you had set off for liyue as quickly as you could. so quick in fact that you didn't even know if they had gotten buried in this cemetery behind the church. it only took a question to your mother to ask if there was any place to pay your respects. she brightened up when you asked, and set you off with the bouquet and a wine bottle.
was the wine bottle a gift for the dead or for you to get drunk on?
you couldn't tell, so you simply placed the bottle of red wine on your fathers stone.
"i gained dual citizenship in liyue, dad. and mr. crepus, the wine there does taste different from mondstadt's." were you crazy for speaking at the tombstones? perhaps. "...mr. crepus, i'm sorry." you muttered, tracing the engraving on his tombstone that wrote 'loving father, business man, and symbol of mondstadt.' "i eventually told diluc everything i knew but i know there's still more out there. i'm still discovering information to this day, so im sorry i couldn't keep our promise."
you don't know how long you sat there at the gravesite, a few people had come and go, leaving their respects and a few sobs before they left. it was like when crepus was still alive and listening to you rant about anything and everything. you would sit in the winery, teethy smiled and optimistic, telling the ragnvindr family things you would see on patrols and such.
it wasn't until a breeze of wind carried the warmth of another presence walking up to you. "i didn't think i would find you here."
"because you wouldn't." you said softly, finally propping yourself upright from the ground. "you probably had to ask someone where i was." you weren't actually there to see your dad, ever since that day you got your vision, you hadn't thought twice about visiting him since then. that's the unfortunate part about crepus' grave being beside his, that you also had to see his grave. "so how'd you find me, diluc?"
"i just had a hunch, that's it." he glanced at your figure before you had turned around and started dusting your pants from the excess dirt and grass you've been sitting on. you chuckled lightly. "what is it?"
