Each day mikayla and chris are only getting closer and even though it's weird for nate, he's slightly happy for them. he's happy that he's able to see a side of mikayla that he barely saw before they started their fake relationship.
unfortunately for the friend group, winter break passed by pretty quickly. they spent majority of their free time leading back up to school with each other, whether it was at someone's house or out at the mall. the doe siblings spent christmas with the sturniolo's—caused by their strained relationship with their parents—enjoying the festive holiday together.
so here the friends are, sat in the booth in a diner in town spending their last couple of months together before majority of them graduate and go to college.
chris' arm hangs around mikayla's shoulder while he mindlessly scrolls on his phone as she uses the straw to stir her chocolate milkshake. nate sits on the other side of her while lucille sits next to chris.
as miks takes a sip of her shake, she looks up at maria adjusting matt's hair with a dimpled grin on her face. her doe eyes look up at him and matt stares at her with nothing but sparkles of admiration in his eyes. seeing maria look so in love makes miks extremely happy; she's glad that her close friend has finally met her match, even though he was in front of her the whole time—it just reminds mikayla of herself and chris.
nick sits next to maria and mason sits next to him, the two of them laughing at something on nick's phone. mikayla looks around at her friends, imagining how everything is going to be when her brother, the triplets, and mason all leave high school. she quietly sighs to herself, knowing that it's not going to be the same.
"it's so crazy how you guys are graduating soon," lucille says to the guys as if she read mikayla's mind. they all frown at her words, also slightly upset about it.
nick aggressively chews on his ketchup coated fries, waving his hands in the air. "let's not talk about that, thanks," he says, his voice laced with frustration.
maria agreeingly nods her head before resting it on matt's shoulder, wrapping her arms around him. "we're gonna miss you guys so bad," she mumbles from the comfort of his body, most likely missing matt the most. "like...who am i supposed to laugh at for being a complete idiot when mason's gone?" maria complains with a pout and mason just rolls his eyes.
