"When you're out there, you are flying
Yes, you are electrifying"
Lily Norris didn't like change.
She never had done, along with a lot of other traits that came with being autistic, and she embraced them all. Some of them were an inconvenience but they were apart of her and she worked around it where she could.
Was it time-consuming to arrange her collection of model cars by height, age and colour order? Perhaps. Was it frustrating that everything had to go to plan — or plan B — when even she knew it was impossible? Absolutely. She lived with it and she made sure others knew she wasn't going to change it jus because the world expected it.
Besides, it made Red Bull's job easier. They knew she would never be late and they knew she would stick to any plan they gave her if she agreed to it. The only thing they worried about was the hatred she had for her teammate.
Mason had been on the team for a year when Lily joined and he couldn't stand the fact a rookie was faster than him. Lily would get annoyed that he never followed team orders or plans, even when he clearly had no chance of winning. He cost Lily the last championship and she'd never forgiven him for that. Not to mention, the snide comments he made towards her on a daily basis during the race weekend.
"He's a dickhead, I hate him! Who does he think he is?" Lily growled as she walked alongside her parents and brother. "How do they expect me to play nice with him when he's muttering 'bitch' under his breath?"
"Just ignore him, Lily," Mira warned. "This is his last year with the team, isn't it?"
"Yeah, he's moving to Indycar because he got offered some great contract," Lily mumbled. "Good riddance. I hope we steal Renèe from Alpine instead!"
"Besides, if he keeps crashing the car this season, Anneli will kick him out," Lando shrugged. "She already had words with him last year."
Lily pouted as she huffed, glancing over at Anneli as the Team Principal talked to Mason in a stern voice. After he'd crashed the car during practice, there was a lot of pressure for him to perform well in qualifying.
Last year nearly got him kicked about but he managed to escape the clause in his contact that would allow it to happen. The deal was that Lily and Mason had to be within one hundred points with each other at all times, something that had been in place with Red Bull drivers for years. Despite the fact Mason kept crashing out the car, he always managed to say within 80-90 points of Lily.
"I really want this championship, dad, more than anything," Lily muttered as she braided her hair.
"I know," Lando smiled. "I want you to get it too but this is still a team sport. If the car doesn't perform or your team screw strategy, it's not always on you. You know that."
