Chapter-5

Complicated memories

Jisoo scans through the super-shop and checks her list to see if she is missing anything. She can feel a pair of eyes looking at her, she looks back but there is no one. Probably just her imagination. She checks out after paying and as she is walking down the road, she feels a pair of footsteps following her. She can feel her heart beat faster but she doesn't look back, she doesn't want to. She has a bad feeling about this and starts taking faster paces on the sidewalk.
"She looks so much like-" the person following her thinks but stops when he realizes that he has scared the girl away.
Coincidently, that day a new person started living in their town, all the way from Seoul. He lived just a couple of blocks from Jisoo's college. He was here to search for something, actually someone but when he saw Jisoo picking cereals in the aisle, he couldn't help but notice that the resemblance is uncanny.

PRESENT TIMES

Taehyung picks Jisoo up and lays her on the sofa. She looks tired, exhausted and not anything like the photos he saw of her. God knows what happened to her all this time.

It doesn't take long for Jisoo to wake up. She discovers herself infront of a stranger, wrapped in a blanket with a pair of eyes looking at her

"Where am I?" she asks

"Don't worry. I am you neighbour. You ringed my house my accident I guess" he says

"I am Taehyung by the way. I am the detective in charge of your missing case" he adds

"They are still trying to find me, huh? You know all I could think about the entire time was how my family would never give up on finding me and that was the only thing that kept me alive" she says

Taehyung looks at her expressions, she looks relieved that her family is still trying. So he doesn't tell her the truth, he doesn't tell her the fact that her family gave up and they were not the ones to call him up, that they moved on with their lives, that they replaced her in their life. They have learned how to live without her.

"I need to back to my house" she says and gets ready to leave

"I think you should stay here a bit longer? You are still very weak" he says

"Don't worry. They'll take care of me" she says and as she opens the door, Taehyung calls her

"Jisoo, you know, you have to come for interrogation soon. I need to ask you questions aboout your disappearance and convict the one that did this to you" he says. He didn't want to burden her as soon as she came but he wanted to let her know that he'll find the culprit sooner or later

He sees Jisoo's face get drained of all colours

"But I--"

"I can't remember anything" she says in a low voice and leaves

Taehyung immediately feels that something is wrong. But he doesn't say anything and watches her go.

"She remembers. She knows everything" he thinks to himself

Jisoo rings the bell with much excitement. She escaped from that basement this morning and it was hard for her to make all the way here, all on her own. But she did it. All because she knew her family needed her. She kept the entire family together and she couldn't imagine how hard their lives would be without her

She hasn't still figured out what to say to them but she knows that she must hide a few things from them. She has already lost enough and can't afford to lose her family too

She hears someone open the door, Seulgi or Abba, who'll it be. She can literally hear her own heart thumping, it doesn't matter who opens up. She will just give them a big long hug.
