Today I woke up early, a sense of anticipation tingling at the edges of my awareness. It was the second day of the time Dominic had given me. Leaning over, I gently kissed Asher's face, feeling the warmth of his skin against my lips. I silently sneaked out of bed, careful not to wake him. After brushing my teeth and taking a quick shower, I dressed in comfortable clothes and made my way downstairs.

The house was still and quiet. I decided to make breakfast for everyone, hoping to start the day on a positive note. By the time I finished, it was already 9 AM. I went to wake Mom and Dad, then gently shook Asher awake. His sleepy eyes blinked up at me, and I couldn't help but smile.

After getting him cleaned up and dressed, I took his small hand in mine and led him downstairs. We all gathered around the table, sharing breakfast in a warm and homely atmosphere. The laughter and chatter of my parents filled the room, but I couldn't shake a feeling of restlessness.

After breakfast, I led Asher to the living room and settled into the couch, pulling him onto my lap. His small body felt light and warm, and he snuggled into me, his wide eyes full of curiosity.

"Baby," I began softly, brushing a strand of hair from his forehead.

"Yes, Mommy?" he replied, looking up at me with an innocent gaze.

"Do you... do you want to meet your daddy?"

His eyes widened in surprise. "I have a daddy?"

"Yes, sweetheart, you do," I said, smiling gently.

A look of pure joy spread across his face. "Yeah! I have a daddy! Mommy, I have a daddy! All my friends have daddies, and now I have one too. It's so cool, Mommy!"

I chuckled softly, touched by his excitement. "Yes, baby, it is. Are you happy?" I asked, running my fingers through his soft hair.

"I'm so happy, Mommy!" he exclaimed, his voice bubbling with excitement.

"Do you want to meet him?"

"Can I?" he asked, eyes shining with hope.

"Of course, sweetheart," I assured him, feeling a lump in my throat. His innocence was both heartbreaking and heartwarming.

"Will Daddy like me?" his voice suddenly sound so small and uncertain and his eyes searching mine for reassurance.

"Why wouldn't he, honey? Your daddy is going to love you so, so much," my voice chocked with emotions.

"Really?" a hopeful smile formed on his lips as he asked me.

"Hmm-hmm. Do you want to meet him now?"

"Yes!" he nodded eagerly.

"Okay, sweetheart, let me call him," I said, reaching for my phone, feeling a mixture of anxiety and fear.

I dialed Dominic's number, On the second ring, he answered the call. There was a moment of silence on the line, a weighty pause where neither of us spoke. Asher, sitting on my lap, looked up at me with curious eyes.

Clearing my throat, I finally broke the silence. "Dominic," I said, my voice barely above a whisper.

"Yes, sweetheart," he responded, his voice gentle.

I took a deep breath, steadying myself. "Asher is here with me," I said, glancing down at our son. His eyes were wide with curiosity, his little fingers gripping my arm. "He wants to meet you."

There was a brief pause, and I could almost hear Dominic's breath hitch on the other end. "I'd love to meet him," he said, his voice warm and soft. "Can I talk to him?"

I nodded, even though he couldn't see me. "Of course," I replied, then gently handed the phone to Asher. "Sweetheart, this is your daddy," I said, smiling reassuringly at him.

Asher took the phone with both hands, his excitement bubbling over. "Hi, Daddy!" he said, his voice bright and eager.

"Hey, buddy," Dominic replied, a note of emotion in his voice. "I've been waiting to talk to you for a long time."

Asher giggled, his face lighting up. "Mommy says you love me a lot. Is that true?"

"Absolutely," Dominic answered, his voice steady and reassuring. "I love you more than anything, and I can't wait to see you."

"Can I see you today?" Asher asked, his eyes shining with hope.

There was a brief pause before Dominic answered. "Of course, buddy. I am already on the way."

Asher's smile widened, and he looked at me, eyes sparkling with joy. "Mommy, Daddy's coming today!"

I smiled back at him, "Yes, baby, he's coming" I confirmed, gently taking the phone back.

"You are coming?" I asked, already knowing the answer but needing to hear it from him.

"Yes, I'm."

"Okay," I murmured, feeling a mixture of emotions welling up inside me.

"Don't cut the call,"

And I didn't, knowing very well the path I was choosing to walk down again would likely hurt me a thousand times worse than before. The silence on the line was thick with unspoken words, each of us lost in our own thoughts, yet connected by the moment.
